On 7...See MoreSince you pay union dues, you should not have to "beg" Personnel for anything. The union should put some pressure on Personnel for you. That's why you pay union dues, right? They're supposed to be there for you when you need them. I don't think you are being unreasonable wanting to take unpaid leave when you have an infant. Good luck.

However, it sounds like you should'nt have too much of a hard time getting your CT certification. The web site for the CT SDE is [link removed]!)

I have never done this outside of the school I work in, so I have no idea what a reasonable rate would be. Does anyone have an idea what the going rate is for running such a workshop?

I was needing someone in the Shreveport area to tutor me in Praxis Math portion and the Elementary Content area. I have taken it several times but keep missing each by just a few points. If you tutor e-mail me.
I saw your post and although I cannot tutor you, I can highly recommend a great book for preparing for the math portion of Praxis I. I used Cliffs TestPrep Praxis I: PPST™, Pre-Professional Skills Test, ISBN: 978-0-7645-6397-3.
I am sure you can find it online or at your local library. Math is a weak area for me and this book helped me pass that portion of the test.
Hope it helps.

I am a newly certified elementary teacher...I have doctorate in education so needless to say, it is not easy finding a job...looking at the new hires in some districts (of course those that don't know someone who got them the job) I am being looked over for newly certified individuals with a Bachelor's and certification because of the payrate.
Anyways, at this point a preschool teacher position looks like it is going to be a job I am offered. My concern is whether or not it will count as teaching experience (which was the reason I was told I did not get the job in the few districts I did interview with). It is a teacher position and there are ~20 kids in the class with a head teacher and teacher assistant.
So...when I try again to apply for elementary positions, does this particular preschool setting going to give me the experience that schools are looking for? I have tried for long term sub positions and para positions to try and at least get into a district but then I am told I am overqualified for those - this is the closest job to education that it looks like I am going to get.
I obviously need to work and I am afraid if I get a job at the college level or even an administrative position in a social service company, I will not be gaining experience with children AT ALL. Yet, this preschool position is ~6:1 child/teacher ratio...which is not comparable to a classroom.
I just don't want to hurt my chances even more for an elementary position in the future...any advice would be appreciated.
