My husband is being transferred from Georgia. I've been teaching in the same school system here for 21 years. Will I get credited for my years of service when determining salary? In Georgia, there are pay steps depending on how long you've taught and what degree you have. I have my Masters and Specialist. Any help would be appreciated!!
Yes, that's typical-to be paid for your years on service based on steps and degrees. I am not sure about the specialist. My district doesn't pay extra for that, but some may. Almost every district post their salary schedule on their web site, but with most of the them, you have to really dig for it.

I need them before school starts, and would preferably like to buy them today (Sunday) which I know is asking a lot! Does anyone know any stores that sell them for sure? I checked CVS and had no luck.

The One Voice Inst...See MoreEveryone, if you are an educator who can clearly identify the issues we face in education, ready to stand up, be counted, and actively speak out and raise our voice for the changes we all KNOW must be made - there is a movement making its way across the country to NY this November you should know about ([link removed]).
The One Voice Institute of Elemental Ethics and Education is an organization with a mission: to facilitate positive, critical change in educational processes and policies in 2008 and beyond.
The strategy at the heart of all activities and events hosted by The One Voice Institute of Elemental Ethics and Education is three-fold:
The first goal is to support and amplify the voices of educators, to gather useful information gleaned from their varied experience, and to organize and publish their suggested resolutions to problems plaguing academic systems.
Secondly, the organization is dedicated to the publication and dissemination of practical solutions and steps authored by the experts into the hands of the political, government, and business leaders to educate those that will invariably influence the future of learning in the United States and throughout the world.
Finally, The One Voice Institute of Elemental Ethics and Education will make every effort to raise the consciousness of its audience with regard to the positions, philosophies, perspectives, and track records of political candidates running for office with regard to issues of education.

I have been scouring several job boards and also am working with a placement agency that works with independent schools. I am not interested in working with Fairfield Teachers Agency again; done that already, and I am still paying them back for a really bad job at a crazy school.
I am certified in language arts. When I did not find a job right away, I worked at a private school teaching 4th and 5th grades. I was initially interested in M.S., but found that I enjoyed 5th grade. I did not enjoy teaching high school students as much. I am also looking into teaching at the community college, as I just finished my master's and have been advised that this is a good job as well.
If anyone has ANY feedback I would love to hear it. I have been looking at various district web sites as well, as some do post there. At this point, I will consider public or private, and more tutoring jobs as well.
I plan to sign up to substitute in a few new districts, meanwhile.
I am curious if any contracts have provisions for teachers to take courses at non- accredited institutions but are merited credit by their school for moving up the pay scale.
TJWe are awarded credits only if we are enrolled in courses that lead to a degree. We can't take random courses and expect to move up in my district.

I am going to school to get a teacher's certification. I am thinking about becoming a teacher's aide to gain experience in the school system. Does anyone know the average salary for teacher's aides? Also, do any towns offer benefits?

Hi. I am curious to hear feedback from any teachers who have taught private who have successfully gone on to teach public. How did you make the switch? Was it something you later regretted? Etc... Just want to know your thoughts on any and all aspects of this. Thanks.
I would appreciate hearing any feedback anyone can give me. I have checked out their web site, but I really would like to know what the real deal is with them.

i placed a bit of a clip before I wrote this for those of you who are thinking about Achievement First. I had an interview and the person was rather snooty. They know if they want you off of the bat...I looked into AF and found that they go overboard as far as student discipline. You are expected to give detention without a second thought. i found most of my interview was focused on student discipline. The other thing is that you have to question any organization in which they look for people from "top" colleges. Well, a number of young minority college graduates with inspirational stories may not have gone to Vassar, Harvard, etc.
They probably have some great talent, but something does seem a little off..
