I have my bachelor's degree; unfortunatly; in liberal arts (just a few courses shy of an elementary education major). I graduated in MA but am looking to get certified in CT. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help explain to me how I would go about a CT teaching liscence. Thank you.

You porobably will need some education classes and student teaching if you didn't graduate with an ed degree. Plus, you have to take the Praxis I & II.

I'm getting killed with the new rates! I live in lower Ffld county. They seem to have a monopoly down here! I have tried calling everyone, even the AG's office (no response, lol, probably have better things to do).
Anyone have any advice? Alternatives? This is crazy!!! Thanks!
I have been thinking of relocating to CT. If I am a certified teacher in NY, will I need to take more tests in order to become certified in CT. Will my qualifications as a NYC teacher be enough?

I was a NYC teacher for 3 years before I relocated to CT. Because I had 30 months experience, I did not have to participate in the BEST program, but I did have to take the Praxis. All those tests you took in NY don't count. Check your SAT scores- if they're high enough, you don't have to take one of the Praxis exams. The others you have to take.
Also, the other thing to consider is pay. I not only took a small pay cut overall, but also, my current district only credited me 2 out of the 3 years experience I had. I also lost the tenure I was granted in NYC; I still am not tenured in my current district.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Can anyone point me toward a place where CT teachers look for jobs (other than CTREAP)? I am looking to hire teachers for part-time instructional work - I have tried craigslist and colleges/universities, but I am unsure of the best way to find qualified people. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I also check cea.org and the CES website (not sure the exact address). You can also post here. I actually went on one job interview that I found posted on this very board.
What subjects do you need teachers for? I am looking for a job myself.
Wow, very interesting feedback. I got an email today saying I was not a good fit for their school, sorry... but was invited to come back to observe, as supposedly they have an open school day where all are invited to visit.
I spec. asked about curriculum, as I found myself in my first teaching job w/o any curriculum, few books.... Maybe if I become more experienced, I will feel more comfortable with this type of situation, but right now I feel I need more guidance.
Thanks again. I am taking this latest rejection as a blessing in disguise. (Does not look good either that they lost two core sub. teachers, English and math, in the first three weeks of school. Another poster mentioned a high turn over rate.
I just got asked to teach a demonstration lesson at a Reading First School. I am still waiting to find out what kind of lesson I have to teach.
In the past, I have always done too much in a demonstration lesson. Can anyone make some suggestions on how to avoid this problem so I can land the job?
if you are certified, you should be looking at public schools...great need for certified science teachers..especially inurban areas.....look at CT Ed site for DYSAP info for non certified people.....
they do charge a hefty fee, but if money is not an issue for you, they do have a good track record. However, I would start out making the calls myself, but that is just me.... I got a job through them once, not a very good one, and it cost me dearly. But they did get me job before I got certified, and with little experience, so I guess that is positive!
