I have taken the praxis II for health twice already. i received a B.S. in Health Ed. from A connecticut state school. the first attempt on my health praxis i recieved a 660, the passing score is a 680 and there are 120 multiple choice questions. i did not pass so i took it again, this time i ordered the practice book from ETS and studied it in and ...See More
I have recently taken the Praxis II Chem test and have not passed. I bought the ETS study guide book but that did not help. Anyone know of a good study guide book?

Math Teach It's not an easy test. But, when you DO pass, there are far fewer wanna-be Chemistry teachers looking for jobs as a result of fewer people passing. I sure wish they would make the 10061 Math Praxis 2 as difficult :(

Michele Thank you both for your input. Congratulations on passing the test after a 20 year break!

Hi there, I am moving to CT this summer! Can't wait to get out of troubled California! I have 9 years of elementary teaching experience and I am looking for work in the Granby/Avon/Simsbury areas. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is difficult to land a position in these areas, and how soon I should apply for the 2010/11 school year. AN...See More

Disgusted CT teacher in the know Those 3 districts are among the most sought after districts in the greater Hartford area, indeed they rival some of the rich Fairfield County towns for the most sought after in CT.

In a "normal" economy, Simsbury sometimes has openings because they pay very low for a "rich" school district. They are a strange district in my view. Look at t...See More

Math Teach Actually, what you see on Simsbury's website is an invitation to be an ERC sub. Granby and Avon have them too, in addition to East Granby. They will pay more for a certified teacher, regardless of endorsement area.

What's needed, in my opinion, is a more selective Praxis passing score. What we have now is a joke, with any AP calc student ...See More

I really appreciate all of the input about landing a position in CT....can't say that I feel very good about it. I think I'll try West Hartford next and then go from there. With an M.A. maybe I should try working in the private sector? Sad, but I may have to. This bi-coastal marriage is very difficult and I need to get my rear-end over there! Thank...See More
Jennifer LaRosee Hi Vicki ~ I'm not sure West Hartford will be any better, sad to say. How committed are you to that area? If you are willing to job hunt further to the east, say Vernon, Manchester, and further east, you may have better luck. That said, other that Vernon, Manchester, and Willimantic, many of the districts are rural and small. Are you open to gettin...See More

I am considering going to University of Hartford (Masters in Educational Technology Program) for Technology Education K12. I learned that there is no certification in Educational Technology in Connecticut. One only needs certain experience with technology or masters degree in order to become a tech ed. I was wondering if I was selecting the right s...See More

Jennifer LaRosee Check out the program at Central CT State University ~ I've known a few people who have gone through it and it's an excellent program, plus it's cheaper than Univ. of Hartford as it's a public school vs. private.

Kim Davis Tech Ed and Educational Technology are two different things!!! Tech Ed is high school. The Ed Tech teacher teachs woodshop, drafting, etc. Technology positions are very rare and hard to find in CT. Many schools don't have the funding for those positions or programs. Many Library Media Specialists are the "go-to tech teacher." Good luck!

It's me again...can anyone offer some input on Achievement First in Hartford? I noticed that they are currently recruiting for 10-11 school year. I looked at their website and it sounds very intriguing. Thanks for your help.
certifiedteach Achievement First charter schools are operated in Hartford, Bridgeport, etc. Basically in the hardest urban districts to teach in. They do a good job, but I know for myself, with 20 years of experience, I am not cut out to teach students from some of the toughest environments in the state. I have compassion, etc, but it takes a tougher kind of teac...See More

Hey guys, just had a quick question. I am applying to some teacher certification programs this year and was wondering if there's still a demand for science teachers?

chem teac Certification coordinators are ALWAYS going to be enthused when people join a certification program because you pay their salary! When was the last time they hired anyone for a teaching job? As a chemistry teacher you would be in a better position than most but it will still depend on your personality, experience with teens, etc. I strongly advise ...See More
