I have recently taken the Praxis II Chem test and have not passed. I bought the ETS study guide book but that did not help. Anyone know of a good study guide book?

In a "normal" economy, Simsbury sometimes has openings because they pay very low for a "rich" school district. They are a strange district in my view. Look at this site [link removed].
Then on that same link, click on the "Permanent Substitute Teacher" link, also found at [link removed]).
I don't know about the other two towns you mention, but if Simsbury is the district Math Teacher was talking about, I can understand why they didn't interview him despite all the subbing, they seem like a very strange district.
I've also heard that CT is a very difficult state to transfer a certificate too (though fairly easy to get an initial certificate). Maybe look at towns in nearby Mass. as someone suggested, perhaps it will be better and easier. Either way, good luck!

What's needed, in my opinion, is a more selective Praxis passing score. What we have now is a joke, with any AP calc student having the ability to pass the math Praxis 2 (we don't expect the teacher to have more knowledge than the students, do we?)
I was even asked during an interview, at the SHARC job fair, if I know calculus. No, I was only a math major, and now a graduate student in math taking courses in PDE's and Boundary value equations. What do I know about first year calc? Oh please(:

Life as an Achievement First Elementary Teacher Virtual Information Session November 17th , 2009 from 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. EST. Hosted by Ernie Clarke, an Achievement First Talent Recruiter. During this session, participants will learn what teaching in an Achievement First elementary school is all about—including information on training, ongoing professional development opportunities, and things our schools are currently working on to push our scholars forward in academic and character skills. Ernie will discuss opportunities that we have for the ’10-11 school year as well as our application process. Please RSVP herehttps://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/312091872 .
Also, as someone else suggested, start NOW getting information on transferring your certification. CT is a hard state to get re-certified in; as far as I know, they don't have reciprocity with any other state; if they do it's just a few.
Good luck!
Jenn

I was also wondering if Connecticut has a high demand for tech ed teachers, and will i have an easy time finding a job. I searched for teaching jobs and only came up with one opening in connecticut, but it is in the middle of the year. I learned that I will have no problem finding a job, cause there is a shortage in CT, is that right? THANKS

O...See MoreTech Ed and Educational Technology are two different things!!! Tech Ed is high school. The Ed Tech teacher teachs woodshop, drafting, etc. Technology positions are very rare and hard to find in CT. Many schools don't have the funding for those positions or programs. Many Library Media Specialists are the "go-to tech teacher." Good luck!

A while ago I launched a new website [link removed].
I have now added many more books to the site and even included books that were printed in many different languages. There is also a whole page with "Holiday Books" - perfect for the coming Holiday Season.
Everybody can now read all these books on their computer, print them out or share them via Powerpoint or Smartboard in the classroom.
I would be most grateful if you could inform your readers and members about this free service. It is my thank-you to all the teachers, educators and parents who have shared my books for nearly 30 years.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Hans
P.S. I have also updated my own website: [link removed]
It's me again...can anyone offer some input on Achievement First in Hartford? I noticed that they are currently recruiting for 10-11 school year. I looked at their website and it sounds very intriguing. Thanks for your help.

Hey guys, just had a quick question. I am applying to some teacher certification programs this year and was wondering if there's still a demand for science teachers?
I appreciate the response. If you are a Chemistry teacher here in CT I would definitely like to talk to you more about your experiences in the teaching profession. You seem to have a no nonsense approach which I respect. I listed my email above, email me so we can have a dialog or respond to this thread.
As far as a personality for teaching, I have held some high stress jobs and have done well, but just didn't feel satisfied with them. I cope with stress better than almost everybody I know, but that's just because I've trained my mind over the years.
