Does anyone know when there are going to be any job fairs in CT? Or, would anyone be able to assist me in finding out any information about the job fairs? Please let me know, thanks!

I don't know about job fairs after May -- I haven't attended any myself. The ones I've heard about seem to be in March and April.
Since you teach elementary, you probably don't want to wait until you come home to begin applying. Elementary is highly competitive. I suggest you get your resume and cover letter ready now and keep an eye on the various job sites -- some districts are already posting fall openings.
Since you asked, I teach ESL for grades K-4.

Hey guys! I am considering relocating from NY to CT. I am from LI and there are NO jobs either. From what I have been reading, CT might be a problem as well. Should I attend the job fairs that were discussed for counseling jobs too? Are these job fairs geared towards careers in education? or just in general?
In preparation for the upcoming hiring season, does anyone have any ideas on where I can get advice on writing a good cover letter to go w/ my resume & other materials? I got my certification last year and have not been successful securing interviews. I'd like to make sure I have a good, strong cover letter. Thanks.
I am certified in elementary education and well aware of the difficulties of finding a job. I have been unsuccessful for several years yet have gained a lot of valuable experiences including a long term position lasting for a year. I am willing to relocate outside of Fairfield County and am seeking some helpful tips(cover letters and ways to secure an interview). I do check education websites and have filled out many online district applications.
I received my Initial Educator certification a year ago. It's good for three years. Does anyone happen to know what happens if I don't get a job before it expires? Can it be renewed without re-taking a lot of coursework? Don't you have to pass the BEST portfolio within that time frame?
You can renew your certification up to five times. No additional courses are needed. You will need to download a form from the state department of education and send a check for one hundred dollars.
I am still trying to secure a job after 6 years and will be renewing my certification again. Make sure you send in the paperwork two months prior to the expiration date. The department is pretty quick in renewing your license however there is always the possibility of delays.

I was reading the posts below about cross endorsements and was wondering what it takes to get a cross endorsement in Earth Science or General Science. Do you have to have 18 credits all in earth science (geology, astronomy, etc) to get an earth science degree? What is considered "general science" courses to count toward the 18 credit requirement?
I am currently certified in Biology and would like to get cross certified to become more marketable. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I am a new teacher who just completed certification in NY. I am hoping to relocate to Waterbury and would be available to work beginning with the 08- 09 school year. I am currently applying for CT certification. I should have cert in special ed, elem ed, and ESOL.
Could anyone provide any insight as to the hiring process in Waterbury? Time lines? Job fairs? Is it best to apply directly to principals in addition to the board of ed?
Probability of finding employment? I can only move with a job in place. Thank you for any help.
My only advice would be: DON'T DO IT!!!! Waterbury is a tough place to work...and not because of the kids. It was also just named the worst city in the country in Forbes Magazine. Take my advice and experience!

I just began working at one of the high schools there and have loved it so far. I am in special ed and the pay is great. They also get out at a decent time in June. The kids are rough, I won't lie but I have just been my usual and am able to relate well to them and manage the class well. I was ALWAYS leary of working here, but so far so good. Go for it:)
I went to a job fair last March held at the Farmington High School. Has anyone heard if they are having this again? Does anyone know of any other ones in March? I checked CTREAP website and they all seem to be southern CT. Thanks. Megan
Megan, They hold that fair annually. It is probably too early for them to post information yet. I also plan on attending that particular job fair.

I was just hired for a full time elementary teaching postion and will start in September. How long do I have to wait to make sure that I will not get fired when I tell my boss that I'm pregnant. How long do I have to wait to get my maternity leave? I'm not pregnant yet but we are planning on trying to concieve our third child this year or next year.
