Moving from Florida to CT

Hopefully next year our family will be moving out of the state of Florida up to Connecticut (or anywhere that is not called Florida). I am a high school math teacher that has experience teaching the college level math courses, including IB math. I guess my question here is how difficult do you all feel it is for a math teacher with 13 years of experience to get a job at a high school? Also, what is the overall feeling about the state of education in Connecticut? In Florida is just gets worse and worse every year due to the state department of education getting dumber and dumber.

Current FL Teacher I made the move from CT to FL about 13 years ago. Iit looks like money is tight everywhere. We have Marzano in FL, and it looks like CT is changing the way they evaluate teachers and is also doing away with job security. It seems to be a nationwide trend. Mid Atlantic Native So, someone who graduated from University of Miami would get passed over in favor of someone from U-CONN?

With all due respects to any U-Conn alumni, there are good schools outside CT. The whole world isn't into hoops.

kleck So why the initial move to FL if you don't mind me asking? When I mentioned college level courses I mean I teach in the IB program at our school which students can get college credit for. When I mentioned college level courses I mean I teach in the IB program at our school which students can get college credit for. Money is tight throughout the country but I know that Florida is one of the worst. I just got done with a big IB training and spoke to several teachers from NY and Mass and they just can't believe how much crap we have to put up with. One person from NY said he is thankful he spoke to many of us because he can go back to NY and tell them all the crap we have to do when they complain at his school. Everyone thinks it is horrible given the context of what they are used to. Job security is not what it used to be here and the tenure situation is going bye bye in Florida soon. With the way the nation is going in terms of education I might even leave the profession altogether but that would be a very extreme situation since I do love my job.

Math Teach If CT government had its way, one would need a passport to drive through CT, let alone get a job there.

CT is good at "adopting" out of state teams, like NYY or the Red Sox, though.
