TEAMS Teaching Circles is a new web-based resource for K-8 teachers designed to support teachers in developing their teaching practices and is also beneficial to mentor teachers and teacher trainers looking for resources to share with new teachers.
TEAMS Teaching Circles is funded in part by a grant from the US Department of Education and is FREE for all teachers in Washington, DC . Email me at [email removed].
Don't let testing suck the life out of you and fine teaching! Join our 50 States ePostcard Exhange. We need 2 participating classes from Washington, DC; open to k-8.
Our special 50 States Postcard Project needs a participating class from DC ( my Petworth-MacFarland JH - TRoosevelt HS- hometown! Actually we are a group that emails postcards (ecards). This project is open to K-8. Find your favorite ecard sight online....or.... Create your own ecard. This is a classroom to classroom adventure, so the postcard needs to relate to something about Washington, DC that delights or informs others.
Test this on yourself: Find an online image of something about your state. Go to File and select: send image. An email page will pop up. Type in the send to information, subject line, and a message that contains information about your state, things students like to do in your state, favorite state foods, etc.. and sentiments that the students have. You have space, the final frontier, in which to write a decent message! Send the email (now it's an ecard)!
When it arrives, the image will usually appear at the bottom of the email message. The picture image will still be openable as a jpeg or jpg image. Print it out, and there you have it. No postage required, no time lost scrounging around for postage or postcards.
On the other hand, you can also send postcards the old fashioned way (snail mail). Let us know your preference when you sign up. Our postcard exchange needs a participating class from DC!
The master mailing list goes out on 9/15 or thereabout, and you have until mid May to send out the postcards or ecards.
Best wishes and hoping to hear from you, Zanada G. Maleki in Maine, Gr.5

I forgot to add this important part: reply to: [email removed]
I am still looking for several states to participate in a postcard exchange. I have several particiapates already, some even from other countries! HOWEVER, I have no one to represent your state!
Don't miss this great opportunity to teach geography to your students.
All you have to do is send a postcard to the other schools on the list and they all send you one!
When I get mine in, I point the places out on the map, we read the info written on the back, and discuss that state. ( And I teach Science!) Geography skills in America are really low. This is a fun way to get them interested in learning it.

Just send me an email with your school mailing address to trburkartaol.com if you are interested!

Building a team of qualified teachers to conduct (part-time paid) after school reading program (2-4 days a week) for DC public schools. Small group instruction.

Hi. I'm considering taking a 4-week TESOL course in Costa Rica offered by the School for International Training. I live in Washington and wanted to come back after I got the certificate to work for a while. Are there any job opportunities for a teacher with only a 4-week certificate? I have a graduate degree but not in education and have been working as a medical writer for about 5 years. Was also considering a CELTA course but I thought the TESOL certificate would serve me better in the U.S. I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks.
I went through tons and tons of TESOL info, and I believe that TESOL certificate would not do you much good. It depends where you would like to work. For instance public system requires State Teaching License or ESL Endorsement and private schools are not so rigid.
Please let me know if you got any response so far. I'm looking for a full time elementary or secondary ESL position in either private or public school system (VA, DC, MD). I have BA in Teaching EFL/ESL, and 2 yrs of oversees TESOL exp but I had two interviews and still no job.
It's been rather frustrating so I wanted to find out how others are doing. Anyway, contact me at [email removed].
