I'm new to the DC area - can anyone suggest a good teacher supply store in the district? I live in SE if there are any you might suggest that are close by. Thanks in advance!
There is a teacher supply store on Riggs Road in northeast DC. The store is in a small shopping centers just beyond the intersection of Riggs Road and South Dakota Avenue.
Also there's a store in Landover, Maryland (in a shopping center with Target & Loews) at the intersection of Landover Road (Route 202) and Campus Way.
Unfortunately, I can't think of the name of either store right now- sorry!
I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD becoming a member of an established international post card exchange? If yes, please let me know. I am the organizer of an established international post card exchange. WE HAVE NEVER had a participant from your state and we would LOVE to have an opportunity to exchange post cards with you! I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks! :o)
We still need a representative from your state. Please email me if you would like to participate in sending and receiving approximately 50 postcards from around the United States and a few other countries. We will be sending out the cards starting in September and finishing up before Thanksgiving. Take a look at the website I created to display last years cards for ideas of what to write on the back. It is a great opportunity to see the world without leaving your classroom. I look forward to hearing from you.
They kept asking why I would want to teach for DC schools, like it was something they couldn't believe I would really want to do. Guess they wanted to be sure I knew what I was getting myself into!
They offered me a job then they took it away. Very undecisive and unorganized school system. Please void what I said about the DC system because they royally suck.
The following states are still needed to complete our Postcard Exchange: AL, AK, CO, CT, DE, DC, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MN, MT, NV, NH, ND, OR, RI, SC, SD, WV, WY
If you are interested, please e-mail me your school address. We would love to have you. To find out more about the Postcard Exchange, read on.
I teach 5th grade and find that a postcard exchange ties in well as a geography review, as well as writing--the format of a postcard.
If you choose to join, your job will be to send each participant a postcard. Usually I have my class create one postcard and then photocopy and glue it on individual postcards. In the letter we include information about our state and our school.
Then when we receive the various cards from other states we display them on a bulletin board. I put a U.S. map on the wall and everytime I receive a card we put a pin in that city/state and attach the postcard.
My students love receiving the postcards. They have an opportunity to learn little things about states and schools.
At the end of the summer I will be e-mailing all of the participants a list of addresses that will be involved in the exchange. Usually we have about 30 states, I would love to get all 50 states, but I haven't had that happen yet. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you are interested so I can add your state to our list.
We are qualified, professional and dedicated tutors working in the DC-Metro area with students of all ages and abilities in mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, English, writing and test preparation (AP, PSAT, SAT, GRE).
The U.S Census Bureau is searching for teachers who meet certain criteria to participate in the Teacher Follow Up survey (TFS) -- a nationally representative sample survey that looks at teacher movement within the labor force. The respondents will need access to a computer with internet (dial-up or high-speed). They will be paid approximately $50.00 for about an hour of their time. The survey identifies three categories of movement: Stayers (teachers who continue to teach at the same school within past 2 years); Movers (teachers who have continued to teach but at a different school or teachers who retired and returned to teaching within past 2 years); and Leavers (teachers who have left the profession either to retire or to enter another profession) within past 2 years. The interviews will be conducted from July 22 - August 12, 2004.
We just need a few more teachers to complete our Postcard Exchange: Washington, D.C., Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont
What's great about this exchange is that the teachers are all positive and involved in this project, so the odds are quite high that you will receive over 50 postcards in late September - one from each state, plus one from Canada, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C. This is my third year running a Postcard Exchange. I love organizing this, and the students love having one in our classroom.
I choose one teacher for each state. I will mail labels of all the mailing addressesof the other teachers involved - no cost to you!. All youhave to do is have your students bring in postcards from your state and mail one postcard to each teacher in our exchange.
Besides having this be a great Social Studies project, you can make it a Language Arts project too, and the students can write a short note about their state. Some teachers make a homemade card and Xerox the message for each card. Whatever you want to do is up to you!
We will all mail the postcards out on Sept. 24th, and in a few weeks after that you will receive a postcard from each of the 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and Canada.
I hope you can join us! You can reach me at [email removed]
Hi, I am Miss M, a 5th grade teacher, from MS. Washington D.C.is needed for a K-6 postcard exchange. We'll only be accepting one address from each state. Please keep in mind that you will be responsible for sending a postcard representing your state to all of the 49 states on the list. I will send you a list of all teachers participating in September. The list will close on September 30 or as soon as we have all 50 states. Help me spread the word! We will mail out postcards the month of October. IF you are interested please email me at [email removed].
