Good morning teachers of DC. I live in MD and met a wonderful person at a wedding on 5-16-09 in MD named Sherrie or Sharee. Not sure how she spells it. She said she teaches 7th graders in SW or SE. I am just tryling to locate her if at all possible. MY email address will suffice if someone is familiar with her, and I thank you in advance. Thanks.
If I apply to the DC Public Schools, can I choose the school I would like to work at(assuming there is an opening ofcourse? Or is it, that once you are in the DC Public Schools...they can put you anywhere they want?

Once you are approved by the district, you begin to interview with principals, who decide who to hire. Theoretically, you can choose which principals to get in touch with, which is like being able to choose which school you work at, but with limits.

My name is Jack Freiberger, "Mr. Fry". I am a fully credentialed teacher and an actor in Los Angeles. I have a very popular one-man show called They Call Me Mister Fry (misterfry.com) that has been selected to be presented in the 2009 Washington Capital Fringe Festival (July 9-26th)([link removed])
It's a show about the trials, tribulations and triumphs of our teaching profession. It focuses on my first year teaching 5th grade in South Los Angeles. It's a true story and I've been told it has all the humor, drama and emotion that make it a classic. It focuses on my relationship with 2 challenging students and how we affected each other's lives and it chronicles my journey through bowels of the Los Angeles Unified School District. It's been playing for almost 2 years in LA and is on tour to Washington DC, Boulder, Indianapolis and back to LA.
I hope you can come out and support this show and our profession. I just tell my teacher story, but I'm sure all of you have your own story in the classroom. Especially in today's economic climate, where the first financial cuts always seem to be in education, I believe it is important to get our story out into the public to be heard by as many people as possible.
"Mr. Fry is the Patch Adams of Education... highest quality of off-broadway theater." LA Examiner
"Gritty but hopeful... an endearing and charismatic performer... a heart warming 80 minutes." CurtainUp New York
"Uniformly Excellent... Mr. Fry's characters are offer's well rounded and detailed portraits." BackStage East
"Mr. Fry elicits respect for teachers all around the world... A talented blend of comedy and emotion." LA Valley Scene Magazine

In DC,is the curriculum structured...meaning is it laid out for you with what you are supposed to do each day? I am looking for a district or school which has that.
If thats what you are looking for, you will LOVE Montgomery County (MCPS), it is the county right next to DC. Everything is very laid out for you day by day etc.

There are some old threads about this program, but do any current or recent fellows have feedback about the program and the level of support you can expect? Thanks for any help!
Yes, I agree. I see a lot of old threads and I am interviewing in September for the January 2010 Cohort and all I've seen is a great deal of negative feedback from many years ago. Can a current fellow or someone who recently completed the program please provide some feedback about their experience with the DCTF? Thank you so much!
DC Teaching Fellows seeks outstanding mid-career professionals and recent college graduates with a desire to make a difference in the lives of DC Public Schools’ students who need them most. We encourage you visit our website, [link removed].

I had a run in with the assistant head of this school; a really nasty, militant, martinet type. I wanted to be a math teacher there but after my experience, I have changed my mind. Anyone else had a similiar experience or know this ogre?
