The pay for teachers seems great in baltimore, va , and Dc, but I know housing around Dc is very expensive. Plus a lot of the housing seems connected side by side! Yuck! What are utilities like? Whats the commute like? Are there any suburbs or rural areas with inexpensive free standing homes to rent? How are the people? What are the kids and parents like? What are the jobs like in other sectors?

New I'll try to see about checking out the hbo show. How is the cost of living in the area?

It's all relative... The cost of living is high, thus, the salaries seem high to someone who isn't familiar with the area. Teachers are just as poor here as they are everywhere else. It is a great city and can be a very rewarding place to teach.

Best of luck!
