I'm moving to Delaware from Philadelphia next year and would like to teach there instead of having to commute back to Philly to my current job. I've taught for 14 years in the Ardiocese of Phila. and am in my 4th year as a public school teacher. Is there anyone on this board who can give me some sort of guidance as to exactly how to get my name out in Delaware? I've gone to the big teacher's job fair at the university there, and also to a smaller one. It seemed like DE preferred to hire their own first, but I know there has to be some sort of concession some where, I just don't know where. I'm certified in Elementary Ed. as well as Middle Schools Language Arts. I'm planning to go for certification in Middle Schools Social Studies this year too.
I'd hate to have to commute back and forth to Philly to work, but plan to do so only if I have no other choices. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try? Thanks to anyone who can help me, and if not, I guess I'll just keep on trying until I'm successful.
Southern Chester County is definitely NOT like the city of Chester. Here is a website that has links to all the school districts in Chester County:

The ones I would say that are definitely within commuting distance to Delaware are Avon Grove (more rural, but rapidly growing and developing), Kennett Consolidated (large Hispanic population due to the migrant mushroom farm workers), and Unionville-Chadds Ford (extremely wealthy, considered one of PA's top districts).
Here's the link to the Cecil County schools:

I think they're always at that big teacher job fair at U of D. It may be easier to find a job there than at one of the PA districts, but you never know. The middle school certifications will definitely make you more marketable.
Good luck!

Thanks. I see I have lots more work to do. I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks again.

Im looking for a teacher interested in joining a Postcard Exchange with schools from all 50 states. We have several states already participating, but we do need a school from Delaware. It can be any grade level, incorporating this activity into a lesson for any grade is appropriate. If you are interested please email me with your school address and I will reply with a listing of all the schools participating so far. Thank you! -Liz [email removed]
I am looking for J A Hammonds who taught history at P.S. DuPont High School. We are having our 35th class reunion and so much want him to be a part of it. I would appreciate any information. Thanks!
Can some teachers offer any information about teaching in Delaware, how is the job market for elem teachers,I will be living in (New Castle County) Middletown what are some great districts around the area, I'm willing to commute for a good district. Also, do the schools offer good support for new teachers from your experience. I will be graduating from college and be going straight into teaching. Thanks for your help.

Hello Meg,
I am interested in private Spanish lessons. I go to school in West Chester and was wondering if we could set something up for during the school year (Beginning in September) Maybe we could meet a couple times before that as well. i have transportation down to Avondale. It is about an hour from my home in Lansdale and a half hour from West Chester. Please let me know your rates and your ideas about whether or not we could begin lessons.
Hello my name is Jen. I am also a student at West Chester and am interested in private spanish lessons. I was wondering if you still had some openings for new students. If you could email me at [email removed]
What kind of interview questions are districts and schools asking in DE? Thinking of moving there and would like to know if it is different than where I live now. Here we use situational type questions rather than the traditional "Why do you want to teach?" and "Explain your discipline management system." Thanks for any input you can give!
What are your top strengths and weakness? What theory of discipline do you use? What research based programs have you used? What do you know about A.R.? How do you use differianted instruction?

I am wondering how to get into teaching summer school. I will graduate in February with a degree in English Ed. I would like to teach summer school this summer before actually getting a teaching position.
Does anyone know about the process of finding a summer job? Should I just randomly mail out my resume and apply for a summer position, or are there postings/hirings available as summer nears?
Contact the district offices and fill out an application, they will also let you know their individual hiring process.

Dear Colleague: The Washington Post at one time featured articles dealing with political issues facing schools. As we all know, politics impact all aspects of schooling. Newspapers throughout the nation publish articles written by authors with rich backgrounds in education.
