Use these 10 tips to motivate your students, answer their questions about why school is important for them... why it matters to work hard, value education, and take school seriously.
I am seeking to get my teaching certification and have a question - I have a bachelor's in a subject that has nothing to do with what I want to teach, do I need to sit for the GKT and then apply for a temporary certificate, or can I apply with just a bachelor's and then sit for the GKT?
Our Finest Hour - A silent mentoring program - by Todd Bloomer
Todd's school is mentoring students in a very different way. "The key to our program is that the student is not told they are part of a mentor program." Click below to read all about it...
Retired last year from the state of North Carolina after 31 years, partly because I was having the lap band surgery done (I was nearly 300 pounds) and knew I could never give my efforts to it if I were still working full time. Now, 80+ pounds left, I feel like a different person.
Yes, I've enjoyed my year "off" but wanna get back in the saddle one more time. I have REALLY missed the interaction with kids and with other teachers.
Don't bother telling me I am nuts. I know that. One does not deal with middle schoolers for as many years as I have and retain any semblance of sanity. Not a whit.
And save your breath....I know things are tough for teachers in Florida; they are tough everywhere. The legislature in North Carolina is openly hostile to pubic school teachers, stripping away tenure, eliminating pay for advanced degrees, cutting teacher assistants and raising class sizes (one of our science classes had 37 students); they've even established a vouchers program for private schools, all the while slashing the public school budget by about a billion dollars and giving tax break to millionaires. So don't weary yourself telling me about the horror stories. I've already read that chapter and seen it in action. Besides, my new principal was very upfront with me and told me all about how things are in Florida. She even asked me: " are you SURE you want to come here?"
I do. I lived in Florida before, eons ago, when it was a very different place than I surmise it is now.
I will be teaching 5th grade science and math in Orange City. Will be heading down early next week to deal with paperwork and do another (my third) reconnaissance of the area.
Would be delighted to meet up with any t netters I know.
