I am a chemistry teacher in Scotland and have been for 3 years. I am keen to move to Florida as I have been coming here for 28 years and love the heat and lifestyle.
Any advice about the visa process? Or areas to work? I am keen on kissimmee varea.
And do you need to get certified? I have a masters in education as well as my post grad in teaching and my science degree.
TeriVisit the fldoe.org website to find out about certification requirements. Sorry I don't have any information about visas. As for areas, look around carefully; every school district is different. Martin County (about 2 1/2 hours south of Orlando) is still a nice district to work in.
I am a Canadian teacher. I would like to move to Florida and get a teaching job (Physical Education) for next school year.
I have been having some difficulty finding our how I would qualify for a position. Does anyone have any advice or contacts? I find the work visa issue to be most confusing
Agreed don't teach in Florida - unless you have a trust fund! You will have an extremely difficult time supporting yourself. Forget about having a family or sending a child to college.
I am looking to become a teacher and was curious if sick pay in Lake County is rolled over year after year. I have searched the internet and the Lake County website but cannot find the answer. Does anyone know? Are you still able to hold onto it till you retire and take the unused portion as a payout? Thanks!
I'm working two weeks this summer to help write curriculum frameworks for my district, incorporating the new Florida Standards (which, for ELA, are exactly the same as the CCSS) and Marzano. Just wondering if anyone else was doing anything like this.
Totally agree!!!!!!!! I felt so awkward, just like taking the FCAT! I think I wasn't expecting that type of test. I thought it'll be more friendly but it was not people friendly at all.

I'm taking the test to renew my certification. I'm home righ now with my little ones but want to maintain my cert. took it five years ago and it was just a one part test. Seems to have changed a lot. Has anyone taken it recently and have some insight?
