I am in need of a HI teacher to join my 50 state postcard exchange. I only have a few states left. If you can help me out, please email me at [email removed]
Include the following:
Who you want the postcards addressed to (Mrs. Hollingsworth's Class) Your school name and address Your grade level(s)
If you are an elementary teacher who would like to participate in a postcard exchange, email me your school address and your grade level. You would need to send out postcards from your state and in exchange your class would receive postcards from other states. It is great fun for students to learn about "snail mail" and to learn about our country. I hope you can join us! Eileen

Hi, I have sixth graders, and I teach world regions with one focus on the US geography and states. I would like to participate in a postcard exchange. I have two Social Studies classes so approx. 52 students. I could use one or two contacts for each state. Appreciate a quick reply as I need to start with project soon. Thanks, Sharon from Ohio
How difficult is it to get a teaching position mid- year? I want a special ed. position in Maui. How hard are they to come by? I am also certified for elementary ed. Same question. I know how expensive it is to live there, but wondering how to find out which specific schools on the various islands are looking to fill their vacancies and what they are.
I have already applied for & granted the teaching license. Just waiting for it to come in the mail. I haven't scheduled an interview yet, but will try to set one up in October. I have a brother who lives in Maui, so he let me know just what to expect and why they can't keep teachers out here. Just like everybody says, people leave quickly because it is insanely expensive to try to just get by. Not get ahead, just get by.

To answer another question you asked, you can't really find out which schools need a teacher. They don't list them that way (unless you know someone "in the know). You have to apply to the district (which you should do asap if you haven't already- it's different than the licensure process) and then they will give out your name to principals looking and they can call you if they are interested and then you interview. That's the way it usually works. It's easier if you know a specific principal who needs your position. They are usually more in need of sped teachers and you could probably get a position fairly easily... you might have a slightly harder time if you're just willing to look at Maui. It's small enough that it depends on what's needed.

These puzzles will definitely require your students to "think outside the box" in seeking to arrive at a solution.
I am a retired CA math teacher, and have been creating and publishing math puzzles since 1999. Many of my puzzle recipients are middle school up math teachers. The puzzles are also published daily in newspapers, including five US Navy aircraft carriers.
These puzzles are free to math teachers, and a new monthly sampling of the puzzles is placed in the following web site for your use, if interested:
I have been searching on the web trying to find a salary scale for any district in Oahu. I would be a fourth year BA teacher. Can anyone give me a general salary range? Thanks!

$350/month for family medical...must be nice. Come January, I will be paying $332/mo just for myself, and the family policy will go up to almost $1500/month. :o) (I visited Honolulu and Maui 2 years ago, and it's just beautiful there! Aloha!)

Hi out there! I recently took a 6 week vacation to the island of Oahu, and did what I'm sure most people do...fell in love with the island, the people and the culture. I've taught at a Catholic school in Canada for the past 7 years and would love to move to Oahu. I've read some of the posts about people moving, and it seems like the housing issue might be my biggest problem. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about getting a visa and how to get my name out to the private schools on Oahu? ( On a side note.... if anyone in Hawaii is interested in doing a pen pal exchange with my class, grade 6, I'd love to hear from you!!!) Thanks!!!
With all the tourism money that comes into Hawaii, its a shame that they can't pay their teachers a quality living wage. Something is wrong when a married couple who are both teachers can't afford a medium priced house anywhere on any of the islands. ITs no wonder they have such a high teacher turnover. What do others think?

In return, you will receive a postcard back from each of the states involved. Address labels will be provided to you if you want. Also, a list of names, addresses, and school websites will be e-mailed to you. I would like to send address labels by the MIDDLE of October. Deadline for mailing out postcards will be sometime in November.

Do you only need your C.D.A.? Do you need anything else?
I am currently in Cleveland OH finishing up my M.Ed in Middle Childhood Education, and will be fully licensed to teach Language Arts and Social Studies. My fiancee has just found out that he will be stationed in Hawii with the Army, and I would like ti move with him. I will not be finishing my masters until May 2008, however I am wondering what suggestions you can give to help me 'get an edge' in the teaching market.
Any comments, ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
