Hello all! I'm looking for an elementary class that is interested in a postcard exchange project. If you, or someone you know, is interested please let me know. I'm missing a participant for your state.
For this exchange, we will all send a postcard to the other 49 state participants during the school year that contains a real-life (not kid-drawn) picture of their state (or a feature of the state) and some fun facts for the students to learn. (I saw vistaprint.com had some good deals on state postcards bought in bulk). Once I gather all the state participants, I'll forward the addresses of everyone before school starts (in label format so you can peel and stick). In this email I will let everyone know what month they are to send their cards out. This way we get them throughout the year. I will also try my best to send a friendly reminder at the beginning and end of the month for those who are to send out to help remind everyone.
Please email me with the following information so I can mark you down as the participant for your state.
Your name (with appropriate abbr. Miss, Ms., Mrs., Mr.) Your school name Your school address Your grade level
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me!
Hi all! I just wanted to let everyone know that I now have someone representing your state for the exchange. Thanks so much! I hope everyone enjoys their summer and has a successful 2008-2009 school year!

Also, I am a mainl...See MoreHi Everyone: I may be moving to HI this fall and I have the following questions for those who live there. I would appreciate your input. I have a possible job (professorship) at UH-Manoa and am wondering if anyone has worked there or gone to school there and would be able to give me their thoughts and feelings about it.
Also, I am a mainlander and I have read many posts on Internet boards about haoles (forgive me if I am spelling this wrong) and the fact that they are often not welcomed by the locals. My concern is that I look very white - extremely pale, blonde, blue eyes - you get the picture and these posts have scared me to be honest. I am a person who has lived all over the world - europe, africa, asia (Philippines, Hong Kong) and has never had a problem with the overt rascist comments (I respect and value all cultures and do my best to not offend others with my words/actions) that I have read about on the net but I would like to hear other perspectives of those living there. Thank you so much - I appreciate it. - Nikki
I am mixed ethnicity (Caucasian/Chinese/Hawaiian), like many others in Hawaii. You will also find Japanese, Hawaiian, Filipino, Vietnamese, so on and so on. As with any place, you will have those who have issues with everyone else. That is basically THEIR problem.
There are many other caucasians ("haoles") here, many that have adopted Hawaii as their home. If you have an open heart and do not dwell on what someone else's perception is, you will be fine. I think it is those people who are so overly fixated on stereotypes and who do not try to adapt to the local culture that have problems and challenges.
By the way, if you make it to UH, one of the first things you should do is learn what a "plate lunch" is! There is a plate lunch wagon that sells across the street from Sinclair library. Just ask any local...they'll point you in the right direction!
Good luck!!

I'm looking to add HAWAII to a postcard exchange that I started. Any grade is welcome! I am collecting one per state so it is a first come first serve.
Once I have a representative from each state I will be sending info out or August which ever happens first!
**This will be my 4th year organizing a postcard exchange. Please note that we'd prefer bought photo postcards rather than made cards. All cards must be out by the 1st week of November. And only write me if you are really committed to making this project work. Are you interested in joining? Email me.
[email removed]
Please send your name, school name and addy, and the grade you teach. Thanks!
Only 1 elementary classroom from each state will be represented & it's on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. Email me immediately ([email removed]!
Once I add you to my state list and close that state, I will send you a confirmation email (Yippee) that you've made it in!
When all 50 states are represented I will compose a mailing list and email it to you. I will create the state list in a label ready format for you to just print out!
You will be mailing 49 postcards(ask for postcard & postage donations from PTA/PTO, parents, grants, etc.)
Postcards should start to be be mailed out in September. All postcards should be postmarked by Friday, December 19, 2008. This works out to be about 3-4 postcards per week which is definatly managable.
If your interested, and serious about following through, please email me:
Your name Grade Level school name school address
*(Also let me know if you'd like to be in this exchange annually or not. This way we can secure a base of states fo the following school year!)
I will let you know if you've made it into this exchange.
Come join in on the fun and endless teaching opportunities that await you AND your students!

Well-organized, reliable postcard exchange in its second year needs a teacher from the Aloha State! This is a fun, rewarding, and easy project that you don't want to miss!!
