I want to complete my teaching certification but am not sure whether I should go with the Univ. of Hawaii or the Univ. of Phoenix. Do principals have any preference on these schools? Does anyone have ideas as to which school might be the better choice, or does it make a difference?
UH Professors are too much into research and at times the educational "research" occuring at the University is a far cry from being "scientific". Get your certification from University of Phoenix. It don't matter if you get your teaching credential from Harvard or Yale. YOU END UP WITH THE SAME PAY

I AGREEEE!! And I say this as a current student at the University of Hawaii's College of Education's PBCSE (Post Baccalaureate in SEcondary Education) program! I've had so many problems with the administrative system at UH this semester it's not even funny! Plus, in the same amoutn of time (18 months) to get just my teaching license and certification for secondary -- which is not even my first choice I've always wanted elementary - - I can get a Masters and teaching license in the same amount of time at Phoenix, and it's in Elementary! Maybe I'm a little biased after my experiences at UH as a graduate (I had no problems there as an undergrad lol) but even one of my "advisers" recommmended that I email him a message with everything I complained to him about, because he said a lot of students come in to talk to him, but they never put it down on paper so he has evidence. Anyway, it really is up to you! Although, with the Phoenix schedule of class one night a week, I will have time to pursue working during the day as an Educational Assistant, which I"m really looking forward to!

about 15 miles south of Hilo. I can't spell the name he told me so thought this might help. Anyway, I have taught first (6 years), Reading recovery/literacy groups (2 years), kindergarten (4 years), and this year was finally my turn for the k/1. I have been in the same district and am nervous aobut moving on. Does anyone teach k or 1 on the big island? I am guessing jobs aren't easy to get being that it's so small. I most likely will be able to stay home w/my dd and possibly have a few more little ones, but I thought to keep fresh and do a little of what I've loved for so long, I could work part time-is there part-time w/primary available at all? Thanks! Cathy

Hello, My name is Kristen I live outside of Niagara Falls NY and I am helping my daughter's 3rd grade teacher organize a project. I am in need of willing participants. The project will consist of each participating class to make 16 paper gingerbread men, depicting facts about the area or state that you live in. I will include a link at the end of this email to a site that I got this idea from. This shows examples of gingerbread men they had received while doing a similar project. Then those 16 will be sent out, one to each of the participating schools from all around the country. This will teach the students many different skills including geography, map skills, writing and social studies. A bulletin board can be made with a map and when the gingerbread men are received, a map marker can be placed from that school. We will need 17 schools to participate, since you wouldn't send one to your own school. The students can brainstorm, research, and create the gingerbread men individually or as a group. If you are interested all I will need from you is your school address, and your name, so that I can give a list of class names to all participants. If you are not interested, please share this idea with another third grade teacher. I would like to get this project started right after Thanksgiving, so that the gingerbread men can be mailed out by December 10th. If you are interested please email me back by November 12th. This will allow for other classes to be contacted if you cannot participate. Here is the link to the similar project to give you a better idea. [link removed]

I'm looking for an old friend that i've lost contact with. Last I had heard was that she moved to Hawaii and married someone named Stanford Brown. Her name was Heather Elizabeth Comstock from Crowley, Texas.
If you have any contact information from her, can you send it my way?
