Hi Everyone: I may be moving to HI this fall and I have the following questions for those who live there. I would appreciate your input. I have a possible job (professorship) at UH-Manoa and am wondering if anyone has worked there or gone to school there and would be able to give me their thoughts and feelings about it.

Also, I am a mainlander and I have read many posts on Internet boards about haoles (forgive me if I am spelling this wrong) and the fact that they are often not welcomed by the locals. My concern is that I look very white - extremely pale, blonde, blue eyes - you get the picture and these posts have scared me to be honest. I am a person who has lived all over the world - europe, africa, asia (Philippines, Hong Kong) and has never had a problem with the overt rascist comments (I respect and value all cultures and do my best to not offend others with my words/actions) that I have read about on the net but I would like to hear other perspectives of those living t...See More
Former UH student We are a very diverse state. I don't think you will have a problem here.

I am mixed ethnicity (Caucasian/Chinese/Hawaiian), like many others in Hawaii. You will also find Japanese, Hawaiian, Filipino, Vietnamese, so on and so on. As with any place, you will have those who have issues with everyone else. That is basically THEIR problem. ...See More
