How many iowa middle schools/ jr. highs use the Accelerated
reader (AR) reading program.

I had a mom get angry with how we use it and she asked how
many schools in Iowa use it. I am accomdating her and doing
a bit of research.

How much time is a student required to read for AR?

Do you grade AR?

Do you set point goals?

How do you respond to parents who think point goals are
unfair?

Thanks,
Deb

Our middle school doesn't, and it's mainly because we can't
afford it. We are a middle school of only 350 students
(grades 6-8). I think it sounds like a great program.

use. I welcome all suggestions. My concern is that these
students have used the program for 3-5 years in the
elementary school...if ...See More

Also in Iowa, our middle school is just getting into AR this
winter. We have 850+ kids and are just enforcing the rule that
you must have an AR book with you at all times. At the last
faculty mtg, the principal decided that if silent reading time is
assigned on any given day and a student does not have an AR...See More
