I'm in Oregon, but there are no elementary teacher jobs here. I've taught in Utah. How are the schools in Nampa. I see that they are coming to the Oregon teacher fair in April. Any other school districts in Idaho recommended? Salaries? I am also National Board certified and finishing my Masters, so I don't know if that would be an issue in hiring. I might be too costly in their eyes. Thanks, Melissa.
My wife and I are eager to move to Eagle, ID. However,we will be moving from CA, where I have taught for the past 7 years. I am looking forward to transitioning from teaching to administration next year. I can definitely find a job in administration in CA for next school year, but I'm wondering what my chances will be in ID. As much as we would like to move to ID, I can't do it as a teacher because I would take too much of a pay cut, and my wife is taking time off from teaching to stay home with our 18 month old daugther. Please respond with any thoughts.
I teach at Meridian High School, within the same district as Eagle. There is an amazing growth in this area and new schools are in the pipeline. Yes, I took about a 50% pay cut when I came here from CA, but the lifestyle and atmosphere within this district is amazing. I understand that there will be some restructuring within the district this fall. There will be three super-principals overseeing the elementary and middle feeder schools to each of the comp. high school, so there will be some openings. I don't know anything about middle or elem. positions. This area is extremely conservative and almost entirely caucasian. The district uses the "perceptor" test as one of the measures prior to hiring. If you're not familiar with this test, you can find sample questions on the internet. I don't know where you are in CA, but understand that the parents are highly demanding and very participatory.....even to a degree of benign neglect. From an administrator's POV, the union here is very weak. This is a right-to-work state as well and there are no work permits or work laws for kids over 15. This make it tough for teachers when kids work 40 hour per week. The district likes to be cutting edge with new programs. We currently are using a block schedule and the CIP model. We like to collect data and have collaboration time at the high school level. The high school where I teach is moving to small learning communities next year. Idaho ranks low on the number of graduates attending college. The Meridian District has wonderful test scores, in fact, the highest in the state. The area is a wonderful one in which to bring up kids. In fact, my daughter and her husband and four kids are moving up later this month. There are many opportunities for teachers to teach part time or on every other day within the high school block schedule. You should be able to access the Meridian School District No.2 on the web and see current and future positions. From my POV, there's not much money in admin. either, and at the secondary level there's a lot of work at night. There are the four seasons, but the temps are not that extreme. The community is very clean and has many cultural and sporting events. If you're from LA or the SAN Fernando valley, it will seem like Nirvana. If you're from San Fran., it will seem very provincial. e-mail me if you have other questions. Sheryl Schneider
Public education in Texas is in BIG trouble! We have a politician in Austin who is from Arlington, and is the head of the education committee. His name is Kent Grusendorf anf he hates teachers! He blames teachers for his son's suicide, and has been punishing teachers since he was elected. If he gets re-elected, we will lose our continuing contracts. We'll also lose our 22-1 class cap for K-3, and our 30-minute duty-free lunch (I never knew those existed until I came to Texas!) He supports vouchers, which as we all know takes money from public education. There is a lady running against him this year who has a good chance of defeating him. Her name is Diane Patrick. Early voting for this primary election is Feb 21 - March 3, and the regular election is March 7. We have it on good authority that he plans to initiate a nasty smear campaign against her just prior to the primary. Those of us who care about our children are asking that voters who live in District 94 call, write, or email their friends and family to ask them to vote for Diane Patrick. We're even asking those dyed-in-the-wool, straight-Democrat-ticket voters to, JUST THIS ONCE, to vote in the primary, vote early, and vote for Diane Patrick. If you have friends or family in the Arlington, Texas, area please forward this email to them and ask them to help us defeat Kent Grusendorf. Thanks, and have a great rest-of-the-year!
I sent my application to the state department of education. I'm ready to start applying. I'm wondering when school districts start posting jobs? I'm elementary ed. I'm looking at south west, central, and south central. Thanks!
Does anyone know if they are opening any new elementary schools in Meridian or Boise for the 2006-2007 school year? I am trying to get an idea of openings these school districts might have coming up. Jennifer
Hi- My name is Melanie Harris and I am planning on moving to the Moscow, Idaho area this summer with my new husband. I will be graduating from the University of Missouri-Rolla in May with a BA in History and certification to teach 5- 12. I will be needing to find a teaching position. So far all of my searches have turned up to be dead ends. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction or give me some input.
I would love to teach in southern Missouri, but it is too far from family. It might still be early for jobs to be posting, at least that's what others have told me. Look at

I am new to Meridian schools this year and am hoping to find a fun and flexible summer job. None of the teachers at my school work during the summer. Does anyone know of fun summer jobs that have some flexible scheduling (to allow for vacation)in the Boise/Meridian/Kuna area?

How is the hiring situation for new teachers in the Boise area? I was told it is growing fast, but sometimes there is a discrepancy between what is said and reality. How are the benefits for teachers? Any information would be appreciated! Mike
