Does anyone have any information about the most recent Art Content knowledge test? Im doing some last minute studying. Im taking the test tomorrow! =( Please let me know, im freaking out over here! Also, does anyone know the passing score you need in NJ? Let me know!!
I took the Praxis today. I was surprised at the amount of questions about esl/ell learners on it! This was not a focus in my masters program. I have attended workshops on my own as they were offered, but never anticipated so many questions on that one population of students I would serve.
I'm considering relocating back to the midwest after several years down south. I teach theatre, and I know it's not as common in schools there (particularly middle school, which I prefer, though am certified preK-12) as it is here and I'm having trouble finding some key info.
So, two questions for you all: 1) Is there a state organization for K-12 theatre teachers?
2) Do you know of any public districts or private schools known for their good fine arts and/or theatre programs?
You might want to check out Herron, a new private arts high school downtown Indianapolis. I know they were looking for a theatre teacher last year, and it doesn't look like it's been filled.
In terms of other districts known for good theatre programs, some that come to mind are Carmel, Pike, Bloomington, and only a few others.
Good luck!

I am having trouble navigating the IDOE website. I need to find the application and procedures to apply for a job in Indiana. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
In Indiana the agency that issues licenses is the Professional Standards Board. They have a link on the DOE site.

I also took the test yesterday, I think I may have passed by the skin of my teeth. Some questions were just a guess, but basically it looks like I had the same test, if not similar. First question was What is the Taj Mahal...it's a mosoleum. Also what was Michaelangelo's studies done in..the anser is chalk. Who did the Jetty, what was the hardest p[art of it (or something like that) The BRonze door, (I wrote Danotello but that was wrong it's ghilbertti I think)_ Also who said something about perspectives (I wrote Albertti) What were Mexican Murals in the 20th century about (I had no clue) 2 questions on sleeping gypsy ( I got one wrong I know for sure, the answer what use of light).
I'll tell you what was NOT on the test I had.. Nothing about anceint columns Nothing about Pop art Nothing on Chagal Only the one question on Michaelangelo and one on davinci Nothing on Matisse Nothing on Monet Nothing on Van gogh Nothing on Raphael
Hope this helps a little..... It wasn't hard if you follow whats on this message board...I just studies a lot of the wrong things.
I just wanted to thank all of you that have taken the time to help others that are preparing for the General Content Knowledge test. I too took the test Sat. (4/26, in NJ) I'm 50 and have been out of school for 20 years. The info that is given here is invaluable! I was clueless as to where and how I was going to start studying for this thing. The info here gave me the ground work to start. I studied/researched for a month and I can say ALOT of the info here was on the test! I had the test that included "The Sleeping Gypsy"
I think I did well! Walked out with a smile on my face. Maybe beacuse it was over! Went home and took a nap! LOL I'll let you know when I get my results.
One thing I would recommend is study the major movements and the style it represents. Study the influential artist of that period. Don't give yourself a headache like I did. The test is geared twords process of elimination. For example, art techniques; ceramics, printing, weaving or engraving? The test gives you a term. Architecture; Rococ, Renaissance, Greek or Roman? How do styles of certain periods influence other types of art, ie., pottery, printing, photography, etc.? If you can relate a movement with the question you have it made.
I was able to get through the test in an hour because of the info here. I circled the questions I wasn't sure about so I could spend the next hour taking the time to study the question and redirecting my thoughts. I did erase alot! Not sure that was a good thing but I felt better about my answer. The questions are tricky so read closely and understand what they are asking before you answer.
Good Luck to all, and best wishes to those that are awaiting their results!

I went back through every post from 2004 or whenever it started. I cut and pasted all the stuff that people could remember that had been on their test. I then printed it off and looked everything up. It became my only study guide. I used Anotated Mona Lisa and Google. That's really all you need.
Michigan City Area Schools has multiple positions open. Those applying should be ready for the challenged of urban education. Multiple social studies, FACS & elementary education openings.
Those applying should be ready for stagnent leadership and an incompetent school board where nothing ever changes in one of the lowest ranked school systems in the state. As a 3.8 student in MCAS, I barely had the skills to pass my first year a college. This district is a mess and needs good people that will go in, work hard, open their mouths, and demand change.

I am doing my demonstration teaching in January 2009 at a MC elementary school. I am really excited and hope I will get a job offer for the following fall. I have been teaching for a number of years in private school, but I am now just finishing what I need to do to get my license. Have any advice?
