On 4/30/11, I took all 3 of the art praxis tests, as required by the state of Arkansas. I won't receive my scores until next week, but I left the testing center feeling fairly confident. There were probably only 4 questions on the content knowledge portion that I didn't at least know enough to make some sort of educated guess about.
Just as others have recommended, you should most DEFINITELY get a copy of Mona Lisa. Read it. All of it. Highlight it, make notes, and read it again. And again. I also read the Art Teacher's Book of Lists, and while it was good for vocabulary, I found a lot of the information to be out of date. So use that one at your own risk.
I also ordered the set of 5 practice tests on the website [link removed]!!
In addition to this, I also made HUNDREDS of flashcards on quizlet. I studied every single night. Seriously. Every night, for at least an hour...usually for two. You are welcome to access the flaschards for your own study purposes, as long as you don't judge me for any typographical errors - I made them in a hurry!

Let me also say that I have never taken a formal art class. I'm a Spanish teacher. I am a self-taught artist and have been creating art for nearly all of my life, but I went into this test knowing next to nothing about art history, criticism, tools, processes, etc. You should take this test VERY seriously, and if you do, you will be fine!!
One more thing - the curriculum facilitator at my school district let me know that they are changing the Art Praxis tests effective September 2011. I don't know what these changes will entail, but if you were planning to wait until next school year to take this test you may want to reconsider your options.
Hope this helps. Thanks to everyone who posted with tips - your help was invabluable!
TeachingartsymomHi Monica, I registered for this test 0134 in August and at that time, Tennessee accepted 0134. I took this on 11-12 and NOW it is not listed as accepted on ETS or TN-EDU sites... can you offer insight if it was offered and accepted when I registered? Thank you! Network media which has taken it upon themselves to portray educators as responsible for all ills of American society. So far, they are winning, but I believe in the long run, the truth will be known: No one can make anyone learn.. Desire is a necessary component, as is Willingness. One would think educated legislators and the governor would not be so stupid themselves.

4. if you are unfamiliar with ceramics terms and techniques i suggest checking out the book : "Ceramics, a world guide to traditional techniques" by Bryan Sentance. This is a very large picture based book with descriptive visuals that covers techniques, tools, and types of clay. It is a pricey large book , so check your local libraries. That is where i borrowed my copy from. It was immensely helpful.
