Are Teachers Needed in Indiana?

Hi Folks, I've been teaching for 14 years in NJ and am considering relocating to Northeast Indiana, the Butler area perhaps. I'm wondering if teachers are needed in Indiana or if the market is flooded. Also, those of you who are veterans, how do you feel about the educational system in the state in general? Can anyone offer resources, in print or online, that an out of state person may be able to look into? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm currently teaching Technology Education (mechanical drawing, engineering and design, and robotics engineering), prior to this position I taught computer science and very early in my career I was a 6th grade classroom teacher of all subjects except the specials. IN Teacher Most schools will cap you on experience as a teacher (5 years if you have 12 years, etc). Administrators usually get to negotiate on their salary. The Indiana Employment Relations Board has teacher contracts online. You have to get a password to use their site, just ask for one and you can see the salaries and language on if they "cap" on experience.

Look on that DOE site under Technology Education. Computer instruction in Indiana is done by business teachers. CAD classes though, are done through Technology Ed.

Also, a vocational school for the schools of NE Indiana is located down the road on US 6 from Butler about 30 minutes in Kendallville. They may have a need for vocational instructors. Their site is [link removed]

If you go into Ohio, they have a vocational school in the other direction on US 6, also called Four County. It is about 30-45 minutes from Butler. Their site is [link removed]

The Ohio Schools are much smaller than IN schools, and often use the vocational school as their "vocational wing" so that is the best place to look there.
