YA RIGHT>>>YOU AND EVERY OTHER PERSON IN THE USA! There are MIILLIONS OF ELED TEACHERS LOOKING so keep looking or get a new degree! NO TEACHER SHORTAGE ANYWHERE EXCEPT THE BIG BAD CITIES
Have you been to Indianapolis lately? By the airport they have all these new neighborhoods. They are building new schools. One is due to open next fall if it hadn't all ready. It's down between Washington and Rockville road near Girl school Road. Nice location.
We are looking for someone from KY to participate in our exchange for next year. Email me if interested. Make sure to send your email address so I can contact you.
I am a teacher in California, born and raised in Southern California, but my husband was born and raised in KY. We have some land in KY and may eventually relocate there. I check in on these chatboards every now and then to see if I can learn anything about the teaching conditions, but there seems to be very few posts. Is there another chat location to surf? I'm interested in what the job situations are, conditions, .... Thanks.
I've been teaching in Kentucky for 12 years. I've taught English/language arts in grades 12, 8, and 7, which all included writing portfolios, on-demand writing tests, and/or reading tests.
I'm in the eastern part of the state, and we have a large number of children living below the poverty level. Yes, we do have problems with hostile parents, apathetic children, and unrealistic testing goals that place responsibility primarily on teachers, not on students & parents.
BUT. . .
I'm not sure that we have it any worse that some other places. I've talked with teachers from other states, and a few other countries, who all face major issues with teaching. They may not be the SAME issues, but they're similar.
Sure, there are days when I'd just like to pack it up and go home for good. . . usually in April when the portfolios are coming due/testing is around the corner & we've missed 20 days of instructional time for snow.
I like my KY teaching job, warts & all.

I haven't taught or been in every school in Kentucky, but the schools in Ohio County are wonderful. We have beautiful buildings, excellent administrators, and students who try. Yes, our poverty level is high but most parents and children do their best to support and cooperate with the teachers. We, teachers and staff, consider the school our second family. We care about the students and we care about each other. Maybe its just the area I live in, a small rural community. Our school has very few discipline problems and we are ranked 3rd in the state academically. I wish every one coul be this lucky.
Join the fun! We need ONE CLASS from Kentucky to help complete our postcard group. If interested, you will need to obtain about 50 picture postcards and stamps. Include a message about your state (state symbols, interesting facts, famous places, people, etc.) We will mail our postcards in October. I will supply preprinted address labels. If you are interested in joining our group, please email me or go to my website and sign up there.
It's so much fun to see the excitement in your class when the mail comes and the postcards begin to arrive. US Geography has never been so much fun!
I thought this discussion board would be a great place to talk to fellow educators and parents about a site that a bunch of educators such as me and my fellow colleagues have set up.
We need suggestions for fellow educators and parents on building this "Open Content and Resource" community that we have recently developed. Our goal is to basically make education available to everyone around the globe.
Our aim through Zymbian is to create a community where educators, students and parents can find articles and resources and also guidance from fellow educators.
Also, we started the ZOCOL (Zymbian Open COntent Library) with an intention of providing content in the form of entire courses or reference articles to teachers. This is an area where we need your help. We need some guidance in terms of "Wish -List" and also contributors who will be willing to contribute course-ware which, will be made available globally through a digital repository.
The content (Course-ware) will be made available in SCORM and IMS formats and also in our day-to-day formats such as Microsoft Word, HTML, PDF or simple text.
The idea is to make course-ware available to educators all over the globe for free. The concept is to provide Education for Everyone for FREE.
So we welcome your suggestions as well as your participation as content (course-ware) contributors.
We also incorporated the "Open Content" community so that it could grow in an organized manner and could be simultaneously funded for further development.

Not nearly enough! I believe it depends on if you are certified or not, and if so, how many years experience you have and what degree(s) you hold.

Hi, I am Miss M, a 5th grade teacher, from MS. Your state is needed for a K-6 postcard exchange. We'll only be accepting one address from each state. Please keep in mind that you will be responsible for sending a postcard representing your state to all of the 49 states on the list. I will send you a list of all teachers participating in September. The list will close on September 30 or as soon as we have all 50 states. Help me spread the word! We will mail out postcards the month of October. IF you are interested please email me at [email removed].
Hi Miss M, I teach in a teacher preparation program that is fortunate enough to travel once a semester to different countries involved in the World School International Forum. This fall we are traveling to England and Germany. If you would like a postcard from either country please respond before October 1. I will send the post cards to you providing I have the information. I enjoy many types of collaborations with PK-12 schools, so please let me know if you are interested in building an international post card collection. K-

Our state has a law that makes it illegal for any state employee to go on strike. The law came about as a result of a two week teacher's strike in 1970. The law states that any state employee who strikes will be fired.
You are right. Striking for one day will do nothing. That day will just be added to the end of the school year and there will be no real impact. I hope we don't strike. But, if we are really serious about it, then we need to strike until the health insurance issue is truly resolved.

The following post was NOT mine. Someone was using my name. I was out of town on that day.
