Help....I can't seem to find a teaching position in Kentucky. I moved to Fort Knox, KY over a year ago with my husband who is a soldier in the Army (Fort Knox). I recently graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Masters in Education (May 2005). I am fully credentialed to teach in this state. However, for the second school year in a row, I am unable to even get an interview for a teaching position. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Granted, I'm a recent graduate with no certified experience, but weren't all teacher's and principals in my place at one time? Could it be that because I'm a soldier's wife the schools are afraid to hire me for fear I will move soon? Do they only want teachers who have graduated from colleges in thier state? If I just knew what was standing in my way I may be able to conquer this mountain that is standing in my way. All I've ever wanted to do was be a teacher. I am substituting again this year, but it's not the same. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Brandee, have you filled out the on-line application for Hardin Co.? You can also look for job openings on that site. I just recently moved from Ft. Knox, KY to Greenville, NC (husband is military). When I applied to sub in Hardin Co., it took several months. I had to call several times before I was even considered for the sub position. I would try applying on post as well as off post. I would suggest, if I were you, that you make a trip to the HCBOE and speak to someone in person. If you applied on-line, there may have been a problem and they might not have received your application. Good luck in your job search.

We are updating our last post. We are helping out the Atlanta folks and want you to know that there are also several females who still need placements from the Grand South Team that we can place in KY. They are Italian, Swiss and Portugese. All are great students, speak English well, some play volleyball and soccer or other sports and come with full medical insurance and spending money.

I graduated from Eastern December 2005 w/my teaching degree and I have not been able to find a job yet! I have been interviewed but they are looking for someone with more experience. Well, if I was given a chance to teach I would have that necessary experience! Any suggestions or anyone know of any jobs open? Thanks!

I have been teaching elementary school for 10 years in a public school district in Kentucky. I am interesting in possibly job sharing with another teacher. We are wondering if the State of Kentucky would let us still receive our group health insurance if we pay for it. We are also wondering if we can each get half the retirement credit. If anyone knows the answer to these questions, I would appreciate some insight on the matter.
My hubby is currently working in Cincinnati and may have a permanent job there. I currently teach profoundly mentally disabled students in SC in a self contained school serving several districts' most dieabled kids. Is there anything similar in the Florence/Covington/Newport areas? Also my 13 yr old daughter is served thru our GATE program and has been a part of Duke University's TIP program. Is there one district better than another with support in this area? THird question, How does Teacher retirement work in KY? I understand that teachers in OH are in a program not including social security. Is KY the same? I have taught for 25 yrs under Social Sec and don't want to lose those bennies.
