My class will be reading the story the Gingerbread Man and doing a project with it. I am asking if anyone would mind assisting with this... if you would like to please email me at [email removed].
Project letter: My name is the Gingerbread Man, my friend in CLass 2H was reading a story about me and i jumped out of the storybook to visit you. My friend at school is wondering where I have run to. Please help them by sending them a picture postcard showing them the area where you live. This postcard will be posted on a large map of the world outside of my classroom. This will help the children by showing them how different parts of the world look. I know my friends will enjoy hearing from you and learning where I have run! Thank you for your help! Got to go! The Gingerbread Man

The Mississippi State University Rocket Team and NAR Section #695 want to announce the first MSU Space Cowboys Middle School Launch Challenge (MSLC). It will be held April 12, 2008 at Mississippi State University. The winning team will win $1,000 School teams and other groups (girl scouts, boy scouts, etc) from any state are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The MSU Space Cowboys Middle School Launch Challenge is a contest for middle school students (6-8th grades) to design, build, test, and fly a rocket with a scientific payload to 800 ft. AGL. Emphasis will also be placed on two written papers that will be due in the course of the contest. This contest is designed to introduce middle school students to not only rocketry, but to aspects of mission planning and teamwork coming together to achieve a successful mission. Flight reviews, budgeting, scheduling, logistics, teamwork, and safety are all important key topics (in addition to the vehicle and its flight) that will addressed in this competition.
The contest will be divided into two distinct sections: the flight of the rocket and review papers. The review papers are designed similar to what real NASA engineers have to present prior to their launches. The papers for this contest show insight that the team has gained in the course of design and construction, and testing and validation. Each paper will be 3-5 pages in length. Feedback will be received from the Space Cowboys.
The flight itself will be graded by: whether or not the team conducts themselves professionally, all safety guidelines and rules followed, successful flight, successful recovery, and altitude. Safety is paramount on launch day. Unsafe rockets or rocketeers will not be allowed to launch under any circumstances. The contest launch will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines set out by the National Association of Rocketry.
The top three winners of the contest will receive a cash prize in the name of their school/organization. The total purse for this contest is $1,350, with $1,000 going to the winning school. There will also be other prizes handed out on launch day.

For those of you that teach in Louisiana... how much is deducted from a typical paycheck for healthcare? I have 2 kids, and someone was telling me that a teacher could have up to $450 deducted per check for health care.
I know that the PreK portion of the comprehensive curriculum was being redone. For some reason I had it in my head that it was supposed to be done by Christmas. Does anyone know if it is finished, or when it should be available to teachers? Thanks in advance for any help!

That sounds wonderful- I am excited about the new revisions! Thanks
I am working on getting three proprietary curriculum on the Pre-K curriculum approval list. Can you give me any suggestions on the process--or recommendations of key stakeholders?

As far as what? I think that the teachers tend to act professionally. Most sites have a way to flag inappropriate messages. I'll check into it. On 1/20/08, dude wrote: > Anybody notice censorship on these boards?
I have recently sent my CV to teachnola for a position as an ESL teacher. I would like to hear all pros and cons to accepting a positon with teachnola.
AND lend a hand in the rebuilding effort, you could come apply in EBR. Baton Rouge is now the largest city in the state. WHY? Because so many New Orleanians did want to leave New Orleans, or couldn't return, but do not want to leave south Louisiana, so this is the next best thing. (East Baton Rouge Parish, along with Ascension Parish, and St. John's Parish are the ones that stand between here and New Orleans, which sprawls over not just Orleans Parish but also Jefferson Parish and St. Tammany Parish and - oops, forgot the name of the one on the West Bank.)
We are bursting at the seams with the Katrina Kids. We are facing tremendous challenges, and could use some positive people who want to make a difference. And our pay scale isn't on a par with what you see in some parts of the country, but after you find a place to live, the cost of living isn't too bad, so that money goes a lot further.
We haven't really begun to post our openings. The test scores come out Tuesday, and we will know a lot more about what we are facing, but we are going to be hiring LOTS of teachers after the budget passes (the end of June).
Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely keep a look out. I had the pleasure of staying in Baton Rouge in '96 for a whole month and I loved it. In fact, it's just the kind of laid back city I need away from the hustle & bustle of Houston. As soon as I get my certification, I'mma comma running. :)

You could look at Louisiana Department of Education website for both. It won't give you all the jobs in Louisiana as not all school boards post jobs there, but it could be a start.
I personally love the West Monroe area. We are one of the top districts in the state with fairly competitive pay. West Monroe has a very small town/big town feel if that makes any sense. I rarely even check my doors before bedtime. The kids are great and administrative very supportive. It is, however, sometimes difficult to get into the Ouachita Parish School System. The only requirements, I believe, to be hired in LA are to pass the Praxis in your subject area and be certified. Try these.

Has anyone received their LEAP booklets from the state superintendent? My fourth graders received theirs today. I am a new fourth grade teacher. I was looking through the book tonight, and now I'm scared to death! The reading section is hard! I am going to have to call the hotline for some of the answers that I'm not sure about. I'm wondering if the LEAP test will be this hard. If so, I'm very worried. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish the booklet had included answers. *sigh*
You can call the hotline for directions on downloading the teachers manuals. Hope this helps! I teach 8th grade.
