Hi, I am looking to chat with other teachers who are teaching on an Alt. Certificate. Pros? Cons? What are the salary differences? Thanks and have a great day!
I am teaching on a practioner's license that I received through an alternative certification program. I am receiving the same pay as any first year teacher. I would say the pros are the fast certification process. A major con would be the lack of experience or knowledge that you would receive if you completed 4 years of education classes.
I have a question regarding certification in Louisiana. I already have a M.S. in a Science field and math courses through 3 semesters of Calculus, so if I were to pursue teaching credentials it would not involve another degree. My questions are these: If I obtained certification in Louisiana to teach high school mathematics, would I be able to teach at the middle school level as a certified teacher? What about vice versa? And is there a difference between the job markets for the two levels? I would most likely be in the Baton Rouge metro area.

What kind of teachers are you attracting with that policy? How is your retention? What is the average length of time teachers are staying? Are new teachers leaving after they get a couple of teaching years in to go to places where they can get tenure

On 3/12/09, Baffled, a...See Moreoh don't be baffled.... I too was declined for a spot in the TeachNola cohort. ONLY to be offered a spot as a selector( a year later).. which assisted in the selection process for the very same Teach NOLA.. go figure! If you are certified in 2 different states, I am sure that your certs will transfer to Louisiana...
