Second choice is grades 1-6 Art. I am also a certified K- 12 Art teacher. (Other endorsements include English 7-12, Journalism, ESL).
Any possibilities or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Call Mr. Joseph E. Feucht (pronounced Futch), who is Head of Purchasing for the Calcasieu Parish School Board/System; Lake Charles, LA. Tell him Hardy Parkerson recommended you call him. Although he is Head of Purchasing, he knows what's going on in the Calcasieu Parish School System (34,000 students); and I know the Calcasieu Parish School System is big on French. BON CHANCE! (Did I say it right?)
SINCEREMENT,
Hardy Parkerson Lake Charles, LA

Are active and retired teachers from Louisiana concerned the WEP/GPO will REDUCE their earned Social Security distributions because they were public servants? Go to http://WWW.SSFAIRNESS.COM and join the efforts of a grassroots organization trying to overturn these unfair offsets.

I don't know what the answer is, but can't you ask someone at the Department of Education? I agree that the other poster was out of line. The question isn't whether or not he or she has a problem with you being in the classroom. She's not the one who gets to make that decision, so it doesn't concern her. She should either respond with the relevant information or not type anything at all.

I am relocating to Shreveport and I am concerned after hearing about the budget cut and the hiring freeze. In anybody's opinion, what's the chance that the freeze is lifted and the parish starts to fill the open positions listed on their website?

There is a current hiring freeze. I have several friends whose jobs were eliminated and are looking within the parish. As displaced teachers they will be placed first. They will also let go any teachers not certified in their area and alt. cert. teachers. They will most likely start hiring before school starts. I was hired the day before school started 13 years ago.
Understand, you may have to teach at an inner city school to get your foot in the door. I left Caddo in Feb. to teach across the river in Bossier. I didn't agree with the direction the superintendent was taking the parish and wanted to be on the same schedule as my own kids who attend Bossier schools.
Bossier will have some positions open after school starts. Apply to Bossier, Caddo, and Desoto(Desoto is rolling in Haynesville Shale money but it's a smaller parish).

OK, I just read about this on yahoo answers, but is it true that in Louisiana, there isn't a state law that expressly prohibits student-teacher romantic relationships?
