I am currently a teacher in Texas, but I am possibly
looking to relocate. I want to be close to TX due to the
fact that my family lives here, but I am losing a lot of
money by being a TX teacher. You can belong to a union but
cannot use any of their services, we pay into social
security but cannot collect it when we retire, and we are
not given permanent contracts until after we have been with
a district for five years. That means for five years we
have no rights, can be fired with no reason. Is LA like
this, and, if not, what are some good districts near the
TX/LA border? TIA.
