My family and I have recently relocated to the Mandeville/Covington area because of my husbands job. I am still teaching kindergarten in my previous position (Walthall Co., MS) because I was unable to find a job in LA. I have an hour and fifteen minute commute, and though I love my school, I am a mom and I really need to work closer to my new home. I attended job fairs for both St. Tammany Parish and Jefferson Parish but no luck. I wonder if any teachers who work in LA have any helpful tips?
bucket It is hard to get hired in St. Tammany parish. The job market is very competitive. I understand your unwillingness to give up a permanent job, but it does help to substitute in schools. Louisiannie Do you have your Louisiana paperwork done?

Continuing to teach in Mississippi isn't going to help you get hired in St. Tammany if you don't have Louisiana certification. Legally, the district must hire anyone "qualified" on paper before they look elsewhere.

kara I hope to work in St. Tammany Parish also! I'm not certified yet though! I am currently living in Tangipahoa Parish. It is a little easier to find jobs here, althought it often still depends on who you know in the system.
