I just recently took an mtel seminar for the math exam. I was very helpful. It was my first time taking it and I missed it by 3 points. (I am aweful in math). I heard that they recycle the test very so often. Does anyone know how often it is? I would like to take it again and get the same test as before since I was so close.

Thanks for the info. I am taking the general curriculum test and half of the exam is math.
I will answer your question re: Whether or not you should embark on your journey or not by asking the following question: Are their enough teaching opportunities in your language area of expertise to make it worth it to you to pursue? Only you can answer that.
As far as the MTEL and licensure, I had absolutely NO formal teacher training and no teaching experience and still was hired as a FT Chemistry teacher. When I did my application for licensure, I applied for Preliminary, but cannot comment on what the difference is between preliminary and initial really means to the school to which you want to apply.
Be aware that you will need to complete three MTEL tests for a license; Basic Reading, Basic Writing, and your specific language(s). The reading/ writing test can be taken together at $125 and the subject test at ~$150 each. Your license is another $100 once you pass the MTEL tests. You will need to have a license before applying for a job in MA as most schools won't consider you for initial screen without the license.

Can anyone here give me a basic understanding of the hiring timeline for a full-time teacher for the start of the upcoming school year?
I have applied to ~16 openings for a HS Chemistry Teacher through Schoolspring.com and Applitrack depending on the school district. For the Schoolspring.com site, a lot of my applications have been reviewed, some have not, and I received emails saying the I will be further considered for the ones that have, but nothing else. I would think that it would take weeks to find someone and then bring them aboard for orientation, etc. I am new at this, coming from industry. In the commercial sector it can take months for a new hire to be recruited, hired, and brought on board.
jomaSorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that the Lynn Public Schools are hiring chemistry teachers among other positions. You may want to apply directly.

I am looking for examples of open response answers to the PE exam. This is the only subcategories that is preventing me form passing the test. Does anyone have advice?
I am curious--- Taking the Middle School Math MTEL on Sunday and was wondering how the essays are done on the computer and any insight to the topics. Been looking over the Study Guide and it seems pretty vague. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
