Out of State Teacher Wanting to Teach in Massachusetts

I'm certified to teach social studies and English as a Second Language in Maryland. I'd like to relocate to Massachusetts. Does anyone have advice on how to go about finding a position? I'm applying to districts via School Spring, but I'm not having any luck so far.

license? MA does not reciprocate for licenses from other states. You'd have to get a MA license by taking the MTEL exam in your subject area and then go through the rest of the licensing process. Jarod HM If you are currently teaching in a Moderate Special needs classroom, you should be able to do your student teaching as a part of your current placement. That's what Boston College let a number of my colleagues do when I was there doing my initial for French. You will need to have documented teaching related to the new license for the initial.

how hard is the math 09 mtel in particular is there a lot

to do with trigonometry because I am struggling with it and

remembering all of the different formulas to use

Yuen The objectives in the MTEL website are definitely good for you to study because you can search the information based on these objectives. My recommendation is that don't rely on the MTEL study guides because they are not quite the same as the real problems in MTEL. Instead, use a high school calculus book as resource plus the practice test on the w...See More

Hi, I have a passing score on Mtel Math 09 which is for high school math and I'm looking to apply for a preliminary license in Middle school math. Is it worth applying, or should I just take the Math 047? Thank you!

Yuen I have asked the Massachusetts Department of Education. If you have high school math license, you can only teach high school level. It means that if your job is grade 6, then you can't use high school math license to teach middle school. Your license listed what grade you can teach.
