You are probably aware of the prep books provided by the MTEL website itself. Topic lists are also available, so you can get the basics under your belt on every matter they will likely ask you about.
I definitely DIS-recommend the XAM series of books. I've used them for all four of my current secondary ed science certifications. In each book I found blatant errors. The physics text didn't even correctly inform me about all the topics covered. Use the MTEL's own list and a couple of used textbooks from Amazon, and you'll be in better shape.
There is also a website which sells up to 5 practice tests. (Don't want to mention it, so I don't come across as some kind of shill.) I strongly recommend taking whole practice tests for several Saturdays in a row. A big part of the MTEL (and any credentials-type test) is the endurance factor.
