Have you or someone you know been able to go from private school teaching to public school teaching (elementary, I am lower elementary)? Tell me it's possible. Someone tell me that public schools do not look negatively on private school experience.

The public school pensions are not worth the cynicism, pressure, nonsense, spiritual and physical violence, and insanity. In addition, my use of the arts and music in teaching has been a godsend. To paraphrase Shakespeare, first, we kill all the testers.

"The last math course I took was my freshmen year of college in 1999, but after only eight sessions with Chris I was able to pass the Middle School Math MTEL exam on my first attempt. Chris is an excellent tutor and I highly recommend his services. He is extremely professional, flexible, patient and knowledgeable. What I appreciate the most however, is how effective the time and effort spent working with Chris was for me. Prior to working with Chris I had no idea on how to prepare for the MTEL exam. After our very first session Chris was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses and devise a plan for me to pass the test. Over the next seven weeks Chris gave me the skills, strategies and confidence to pass the exam. I really can't thank him enough for helping me so much!"

Also, are there any resources...See MoreI am curious what the specific route is to eventually become a principal (specifically for elementary). I am currently a 5th grade classroom teacher with my masters.
Do I need to take specific courses? Do I need to go as far as obtaining a specific degree? Do I need to take any specific state tests?
Also, are there any resources for where I can gain more insight on the duties of being a principal? Now that I am seriously considering this venture I'd like to learn more about what goes on beyond what I can see.
Check the DOE/ELAR site for more info on how to get it. I know someone going through the process right now and it's pretty involved - course work, internship hours, etc.

If you have already passed Communication and Literacy Skills, there are no additional MTELs or standardized tests you need to take. > Do I need to take specific courses? > Do I need to go as far as obtaining a specific degree?
It depends.
If you do not have three years of administrative experience and a graduate degree in management and administration, you have two options:
Completion of an Administrative Apprenticeship/Internship of 300 hours in the principal/assistant principal role at the level of the license sought with a trained mentor using Department guidelines
or Completion of an approved post-baccalaureate program of studies including a supervised practicum/practicum equivalent (300 hours) in the role of this license.
If you want to pursue a certification program without seeking another complete degree, you might consider during a certificate program in order to get the Prinicipal/ Asst. Principal license.
I don't know where you are in the state, but I know the UMass Boston. It will allow to meet the requirements without having to take comps or write a thesis.
