Presuming there's any truth whatsoever to the story, then it's good that the school administration and district intervened.
What kind of bone-heads come up with such nonsense?! Whatever happened to actually disciplining students who do things they're not supposed to be doing (like using writing instruments inappropriately)? Have we not learned from history and life in the real world that merely banning something doesn't make people stop using that something or (in this case) using that something inappropriately?
Oh, and what is this "we feel" nonsense (see the letter included in the link)? Maybe that's the problem: these teachers were feeling instead of thinking!
I am a special ed teacher for low functioning individuals. I have an interview for a inclusion class for the 8th grade and need to have a demonstration lesson. I looked at the MA frameworks and saw that mean, median, and mode was in the 8th grade frameworks. I was thinking about creating a lesson where the students have to guess how many Christmass M & M's are in a jar. I would then have the students find the mean, median, and mode. I would then have them write in their journals about the lessons. Can anyone give me any advice if this is grade appropiate? Any advice on a lesson that is grade appropiate for 8th graders would be greatly appreciated.
I will be procuring my Masters in Education (focus on SPED) next year. I've been a substitute teacher for 6 years. How are the teaching prospects in MA for SPED teachers? My hope is to work with students with moderate disabilities- perhaps in a team taching class. My strengths outside of SPED are science and ELL.

Could you get certified in ELL and/or science also? That would make you golden! Someone is ALWAYS looking for teachers certified in sped, ELL, math, and science. You are well-positioned. Good luck!

We are not asking anyone to register or capturing e-mail addresses. We have no way to contact pledge takers, and the pledge does not ask for anything beyond its pure intentions.
