do public schools count private school experience on the salary scale when hiring a new teacher? i have over 5 years experience teaching in a private school and i don't really care if they count it because i would still make more money at a public school but i would just like to know. would really appreciate it
Jaron HM It depends on the rules in the district. If you had a valid teaching license while you were working in a private school, I believe that most districts will count the experience. I know of teachers who have had their experience count to the salary scale.

oldteach I agree with Jaron... it all depends on the district. In my case, my 8 yrs private school experience put me on the 8th step of the salary schedule. However, when it comes to seniority (used to determine who gets open jobs), you have to start at square one.
