MTEL-Foundations of Reading Test

This month I'm taking the MTEL Foundations of Reading test. Based on my study guides, it looks like it will be a very tricky test- did anyone here take it? What did you think?

Sarah It is a tricky test and I truly believe you need to have already been teaching to pass the test. The questions were based on actual experiences I had in the classroom teaching rather than what I learned when I was in school. I already had my RI licence and had some experience. Not a happy mom Don't feel bad. My daughter will be on her 6th try. each time getting somewhere in the 229-232 range each time. the third part for the assessment is killing her. the first section she does well, the 2nd is ok. the third is below the range. I speak from experien...See MoreSorry, I know many people won't like this, but it also may be that the School of Education did not prepare your daughter very well. They are notorious for giving good grades when they are not deserved and when feedback could help the student improve. Instead they pad their stats by noting how well all their students are doing. I speak from experience. I received an A in a Ed course and then, when I eventually got my final paper (over 1 semester later) from the professor (worth 40% of the grade), it was riddled with comments about it's insufficiency.

I actually complained to the professor about why she would give me an A when the work was clearly below level. It prevented me from taking some constructive feedback and applying it to courses the next semester. That type of grading does not help students, it actually hurts and gives them a false sense of security.

Unfortunately, the word is out about Schools of Ed and that is why everyone is pushing for more and more testing. Because they don't trust the Schools of Ed. That's the ugly truth no one wants to admit.

Carol Milano You need to work with someone who truly knows the test. I have worked with students regarding the FOR MTEL for 6 years with great success.

I run classes and tutor privately. The test has nothing to do with IQ or grades in college. I know this test well and it is very do-able. You just need some guidance.
