I have a Masters degree in Special Education (Moderate level Disabilities) and was recently issued my MA initial teachers licence. I have been hoping to find a SPED teaching position in Boston, but with no luck- A friend told me Boston is actually letting go scores of SPED teachers due to budget cuts. Are job prospects really this bleak?
outside Boston? It's never easy to find a teaching job mid-year. Someone needs to retire or go out on maternity and schools often hire a long-term sub for the remainder of the year. Western MA It is the same in Western, MA as well. It is everywhere. Sped teachers are being cut left and right. The more degrees you have the more difficult it is to get hired. I have friends in NH who are in the same boat. They are getting cut from severe residential programs due to budget cuts and working several part- time jobs to make ends meet. It used t...See More

Ted Finch Its so odd, so many people told me as a male in special education, I would have no any problems finding work in that field- I am finding that not to be the case, sped teachers are joining the ranks of the unemployed in growing numbers
