Communication and Literacy Test

Hi everyone,

I just took the Communication and Literacy test, both subtests. Of course, I am over-analyzing everything! I finished my essay, but did not have time to read it over for spelling errors, structural issues. I have some good arguments, but as it was the end of the test, I don't know how well I articulated everything. I had two minutes to write my conclusion. Also, my summary was 165 words, not 150. In hindsight, with less "brain fog" hehe, I realized I should have taken out a certain sentence, but what is done is done! I made it three short paragraphs and probably should have done two. The article itself was 5 long paragraphs so I felt that I needed to include what I did. Anyway, I am freaking out that I won't pass because of the writing section. I think it is evident that I can write; however, there may be some mistakes-- do you think they will grade things more holistically? Jarod H-M While I have only ever scored for the French test, I would imagine that if you did a solid job on the writing that you will pass.

Tracey That's just it, I am not sure how I did on the writing. I can't believe how quickly time went by. I had 30 seconds to read over the essays and two minutes to do a conclusion! I just hope they look at the big picture and understand that writing a persuasive essay on a test is different than if it were for a grad school assignment! I actually have to take the Spanish test in July. I passed the NY one without studying. I'm looking for a book to brush up on the culture/history, but most study guides get bad reviews. Just praying I passed because I'm nervous that next time, I'll get an essay topic that I won't have as much to say as I did this last one. We shall see how much they scrutinize it. I wish the scores would come out early

I really hate SUBJECTIVE tests like this. Scored by a person who just may not like your writing style or point of view. The Open response is 20&37; of the test score, so you need to do somewhat okay on it to get a passing score. Remember a 240 is a passing score.

When I did my Comm. and Lit MTEL exam, I felt a little rushed, especially with all the reading for the MC sections. The short open response essay I had to rush and the long essay also. I could have written better essays had I had more time. In the end I got a Limited score for both open responses, but did well on the MC responses and passed.

They don't release the scores until the day that they say they will. Usually around 5 PM.
