E...See MoreThis survey concerns all teachers; novice and veteran.
Please take time to complete this survey. It is for a thesis statement. I would appreciate your thoughts and opinions. After all, if it does not currently concern you, it will eventually. Results will be posted at the end of July, 2009.
My question is.... In New Jersey you apply to a specific district (town). An old college roommate of mine teaches in MD and she said that you apply to the county. How does it work in Maryland? In New Jersey you choose which towns you want to apply to...but it sounds like in Maryland you don't have much say.
Both my boyfriend and I went to colleges in Maryland (MSMU for me and UMD for him). Before I began teaching I moved to Maryland a few years and lived in Baltimore and Columbia. So I'm somewhat familiar with the area, but I know nothing about the state's education system.

I am a certified special education teacher and I went to a county job fair last month. I have not received a call for another interview should I be worried? OR does it take that long?
You had your interview at the job fair which is an interview for the county and if eligible puts you on a list of people that the principals can then call and interview from. Many to most principals are on vacation now. I know mine is and he said most of them take the week after the 4th off. In addition, the time period for intra county transfers just ended at the end of July and they had to finalize all of that first. Then they go to new hires to fill in the rest of the spots.
If it were me, I would email each of the principals your resume and state that you interviewed at the jobfair and that you are interested in speaking to them abous positions that might be available in their building. Even if they don't have an opening, most will interview you b/c when an opening comes up last minute, they then have a few people they already interviewed and can get someone in the position quickly. That is what I did.
I had my county interview in April of the year I was hired and had school interviews during May and June. I was hired that third week of June, I replaced someone who went to a new program in the county. I was told that I was hired early for a new hire.
Does anyone know, or know where I can find information, about getting certified? I will be graduating next year with a bachelors degree in childhood/special ed from a private college in New York. Thanks!
KarLiI thought that if you have certification in another state, have taken the appropriate tests in that state, then u do not have to take the Praxis. I am finishing my MS in Early Childhood Ed and have taken all the NYS tests. I will be recieving my initial cert in Aug. Am I correct? Thanx!
KarLINY has thier own tests which r similar to the Praxis. When I called up the certification dept. I was told I wouldnt have to take the Praxis. I would submit my test scores from NY. I will call up again, just to make sure.

I know in the past they haven't always had all of the positions filled at the beginning of the school year for SM or Charles. Calvert is generally the most difficult to get your foot in the door...plus they were cutting jobs due to budget cuts.
How hard is it to get a job in Frederick County? Currently, I see that there are no job vacancies for elementary school positions. I feel that they would offer the structured curriculum I am used to.
NO ONE around here is hiring, I applied to 8 districts! frustrating!

I just applied to Frederick Co. and it was an online application, so maybe it's changed recently. Hope that helps.
