I am certified in early childhood and elementary and have also been trying to get a job with Harford County for the past 3 years. I have done lots of regular subbing and also 4 long term sub jobs. I have not gotten a single interview. I finally took a job in a private preschool just to get some experience. I called HCPS Human Resources last month and was told that it is going to be a very meager hiring year. I definitely understand your frustration. Is anyone else having any luck with Harford County?

Many of the girls I went to school with got jobs in both Harford and Baltimore County. I have also worked with many first year teachers this past which makes it even more frustrating. These teachers all go their jobs so easily.

You can start the process online now. You get an interview by a subject supervisor or the director of elem or sped or something. Once they clear you and put you on the approved list, principals can call you for an interview.
I won't say that they are done hiring for the year but I will say that they start early and I know our building has been fully staffed since we left in June.
I'm from Georgia and I graduate in May 2009 with NO INITIAL CERTIFICATION. My plans are to teach middle or high school English in the Northern VA/DC/Baltimore area. I'd like to know what my probability is to get a provisional license in my subject area, as well as if there are any GOOD schools that I can enroll in while obtaining my license + master's degree.

Also, what types of questions do they ask? Are they friendly or intimidating during interviews? it is very nevewrecking interviewing in NY, but very comfortable in TN.
I have been a teacher in Howard County School System for 7 years. In terms of schools, there are many good schools in the system. There are a range of schools in terms of the types of students you get. Some schools are upper middle class/rich whereas others are more diverse that have students from subsidized housing but that still good schools. Most desirable? It all depends what you define as a desirable school. Good luck!!!
