In today's Washington Post, page B2, there is a story titled "School Budgets Under the Knife." It lists various jurisdictions in the DC area. If I am reading it correctly, Montgomery County's budget is flat, and superintendent is proposing to eliminate cost of living raises,Howard's budget is up a bit, Loudoun's is up, Anne ARundel's is going up, and PG's proposed budget is the same as current spending but the superintendent is proposing cutting 900 positions and increasing class sizes. The PG schools web site still has teacher job openings listed. Are they filling these jobs? Why are they cutting 900 jobs if the budget isn't lower than the current year? Does anyone have any other information about hiring outlook in PG and other Maryland counties?
SLP in PG The short answer: increase in kids without an increase in budget. There are 2 meetings scheduled to review the current boundaries. PG also tends to be fairly illegal/legal immigrant friendly (or at least tolerant), increasing cost of services (interpreters, etc). Some schools are not fileed, others are overcrowded.
