G County is advertising an upcoming job fair; supposedly they are looking to hire 200 teachers. But the Washington Post had a story a few months ago saying that PG fires large numbers of teachers. this tends to be the school improvement strategy in struggling school districts: keep hiring and firing teachers rather than improve the leadership at the top of the school district and the principals within the schools. I need a job but you won't find me at this job fair!

anon Because, although I have no direct experience wth PG County, I have expeience with another district that operated this way. When schools are under pressure to improve their test scores, the easiest way for them to demonstrate that they are trying to improve is to keep weeding out teachers. To anon----please elaborate!!!! Why run? Your experience with urban schools is exactly what I personally saw also. So I do believe what you are saying. I just thought it would be interesting to hear specifics on PG. I am on the outskirts of Baltimore, too.
