Honestly, it depends on where you work and who your Principal is. The it is not true that only 40 licenses have been taken. In Baltimore City it is common practice, because so many teachers get overwhelmed and try to leave mid year. Ultimately it is the principal who pushes for the removal of license. It is not a good idea to talk to you Principal about it until you are sure you want to make the change, if you do the principal will likely let you go first at the end of the year if there are cuts to be made. You may find that you end up enjoying your school by that point and the principal may feel that if you wanted to leave then why not let you. Your best bet is to talk to you Union first. They will tell you what steps to take, and who to talk to and when. Hope this helps
