Two women in the farm areas of Maine seem to be pulling a scam in order to get expensive animals seized from elderly owners and then selling them to make a personal profit. The local SPCA seems to be involved with this scam as well!
The elderly owners who have had their animals taken (based on lies told to the court system, despite outside veterinary verification that the animals are healthy, well fed, and well cared for) are unable to fight this situation due to their limited income and the corrupt court system and the corrupt animal welfare system.
One 60 yr old woman (Carol) was able to hire a lawyer for a consultation, and when he heard she had 30 acres, a ranch house with barns, and riverfront property and owned the property, his concern for the case went out the window and the woman HEARD HIM TELL HIS SECRETARY to get the paperwork started on the lien for the property --he wanted to take the case and I guess he was sure she would eventually run out of money to pay him and he’d get her house!!!
The judge is likely on the take too, as he has been ignoring veterinary verification about the health of the animals in question, and signing a seizure order for the animals (expensive, rare birds and purebred dogs and Icelandic pony, Arabian horses, etc).
No attempt is made by the SPCA to contact the owners about any thing questionable, yet the court issues an order for the SPCA to seize healthy animals and then they report in the papers that the animals are half dead, and stand back and watch the donations roll in. Is it that the agents are getting kick backs? The people who've had their animals stolen (taken under false pretenses) are hoping to file a class action suit and they have contacted their state representative regarding this pattern of "stealing" pets and animals.
Carol is starting her own legal defense fund, asking donations to be paid directly to her attorney.
You can get more info about this situation and how you can help (by letter writing, etc) by contacting Carol, one of the owners who had her animals and pets stolen from her, at this address:
fight4animals2004 @yahoo.com
If you've ever posted on endless love or on canines in crisis or on a canine cancer board, Carol is one person who would be likely to write or post back to you--she developed a canine cancer program that's now used at Cornell and she has always shared her cancer program and information and research freely with owners of cancer dogs.
Just thought I'd take the opportunity to get this info out in cyberspace in case anyone wanted to know the details, or just drop Carol an encouraging word.

I am running an art contest and I want to send it out to all art teachers in the state. Is there a list available anywhere or an association they all belong to? What is the best way for me to get the word out about my program? I have to list of all the Districts in Maine but I am worried that if I send it to the districts it will not get routed to the right individuals. HELP! Any info appreciated I am new to this. Now why it took them 8 days to figure out that this is solely for Massachuesetts teachers is something of a mystery to me, but that's what I was told today. It turns out that the information at the site Dan provided:
Renewable Energy Training Grants for Teachers
is somewhat deficient in what it provides and how it categorizes some things (I won't bore you with the details.) If you're not in Mass., teaching in the Mass. school system, this is not for you.
Talking to one of the guys listed at the sites, he referred me to:
Kidwind Project!
This group will take teachers from wherever, but all of their workshops are in New England (VT, ME, MA). Something to keep in mind if you're from here, or apt to be out this way. They still have slots open for some of their workshops this summer so if anyone's interested give it a try.
I'm taking the liberty of sharing an email I just received about the kidwind project. There are still seats available for a workshop that's to meet on the 24th which I'm thinking would be of some interest to science teachers in the immediate area. Contact information is provided in the email below.
Hello Friends!
Thanks for your application and we look forward to seeing you at the Wind Energy Workshop at Chewonki on June 24th
A web page on Kidwind has been established with a tentative agenda, directions and other useful information about the workshop. Head here to check it out… [link removed] .
We will provide a snack and lunch at this workshop and parking is free in the Chewonki parking lot.
We have some great guest speakers planned and lots of hands on activities to take home so we look forward to your attendance. If for some reason you have had a change in plans please let us know right away as we have to adjust numbers for food and materials.
This workshop still has space for 6 more teachers so if you have any friends that are teachers get them to sign up! There is still time! If they are not interested in wind energy tell them there is free food, materials and Chewonki is in a great location. We are especially interested in attracting teachers from the Carrabassett Valley, Stratton, Rangeley, Kingfield area in ME as they are planning a pretty big wind farm near Sugaloaf and we want to do a more in-depth wind project near there.
If you have the time or interest you might want to read some background information on wind before coming. This is not required but it may make the workshop more useful to you if you do. You can check out some preliminary material here… [link removed]
Well we look forward to seeing you on June 24th and please contact me if you have any questions at all!
The following states are still needed to complete our Postcard Exchange: AL, AK, CO, CT, DE, DC, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MN, MT, NV, NH, ND, OR, RI, SC, SD, WV, WY
If you are interested, please e-mail me your school address. We would love to have you. To find out more about the Postcard Exchange, read on.
I teach 5th grade and find that a postcard exchange ties in well as a geography review, as well as writing--the format of a postcard.
If you choose to join, your job will be to send each participant a postcard. Usually I have my class create one postcard and then photocopy and glue it on individual postcards. In the letter we include information about our state and our school.
Then when we receive the various cards from other states we display them on a bulletin board. I put a U.S. map on the wall and everytime I receive a card we put a pin in that city/state and attach the postcard.
My students love receiving the postcards. They have an opportunity to learn little things about states and schools.
At the end of the summer I will be e-mailing all of the participants a list of addresses that will be involved in the exchange. Usually we have about 30 states, I would love to get all 50 states, but I haven't had that happen yet. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you are interested so I can add your state to our list.
Just wondering whether there is anyone working in or near Winter Harbor as I might be moving or vacationing there and would like to talk about the area with someone who knows it well. You can click on "Looking for a contact" in blue to email me through this post, or post here and we'll begin a dialog. Thanks!
The event posted below has been cancelled.
