Hi, I was thinking of relocating to Maine, we love it up there and vacation there now. My question is I am a certified sped teacher here in NJ and when I look on mainejobs.com I get confused what are ed techs levels 1-3 are those certified teachers?? Also where is the dept of ed. located in Maine?? I would like to contact them regarding getting my cert in maine for sped. I am also a board certified behavior analyst, so I would like to pursue a career with the use of that. Does Maine have a lot inclusionary programs or do they outsource a lot of their sped programs?? Thanks Shari
Shari, I'm not teaching in ME but know where to find info. For info on how to be certified, look at: [link removed]

The department of education is located in Augusta. You apply for certification by paying a fee...providing your educational documents and experience. They review and let you know based on the certificate you are seeking; and there are alot!

I work in a small school department and it is GREAT!
Am I the only Maine teacher that is getting fed up with the hoops we have to jump? LADS, MAPS, MEAS, , Learning Results, etc. I have spoken to other K teachers that don't even let their class have recess or any kind of choice time. Are we under so much pressure that we can't let 5 year olds play? What is the matter with us that this has happened? I feel like our freedom is being taken away and that The State wants us to teach the same thing with the same materials. We know young children learn by playing yet more and more time is direct instruction and assessment. Recently, I got a letter from the new state early childhood person who wants to eagerly align the learning results for preschool!! HELP!!! What can we do? I am the only one who thinks this stuff is useless at best.
