My husband and I just moved to Maine this past August, three weeks before we had our daughter. We live near Brunswick and are still getting used to the cold climate since we are both Southerners. I'm an elementary school teacher but am taking a few years off to stay at home with our daughter. Just wanted to say hi!
There is a great deal of talk about getting good people to take up teaching, esp for the 'STEM' course areas. I have seen where some rural areas are so desperate for teachers in math and science that they allow their own students to fill in the vacancies. Estimates are that there will be very large gaps in the available talent pool of certified teachers. Many jurisdictions have got the message and are attracting talented but non-certified professionals from gov't and industry.
I am an excellent teacher in the fields of science( physics, chem, Earth sciences) , math, and engineering.
Would I be able to teach in some area of Maine when I relocate here???
Would greatly apprec comments by knowledgeble folks.
Too bad, I would give a kidney to live & work in Maine, especially on the coast. One of the best places in the States!

Hi, I am pursuing a BA in History at USM. I will graduate in May 2009. I would like to teach History at Middle School or High School. How do I go about finding a position? Do you recommend substituting first? What exams or fees will be required in order to allowed to teach in Maine? Is it possible to find a mentor? Any advice or help would be great. Thank you. Tricia
I for one will not forget what some of your teachers did in 2003 verbally assaulting the children of military veterans. Were they fired or was the whole thing swept under the rug as is usually the case with schools protecting teachers over students.
The class of 1968 Rockland Maine has lost track of Serena. Last known to have lived in Kennebunk, possibly retired. Anyone knowing where she is or how to contact her please e-mail me at Jeffreycthurston@gmail.

By any chance, is Stephen King a public school teacher in Maine. His remarks that if you don't know how to read you end up in the Military in Iraq shows his total and complete ignorance about the military as well as his hatred of the military just like so many public school teachers in Maine who verbally abuse children of military veterans. What's going on in Maine that makes you so much like the people in Berkeley and San Francisco?
steveTeachers have to complete the equivalent of six semester hours every five years. The credits can be a combination of college courses, continuing education units, or contact hours.
As part of a graduate research project, I need to gather data from current teachers. I’m researching the use of technology in the classroom and what factors affect it. If you could just take a few minutes to complete my survey, I’d appreciate it. The survey is online and has 15 questions.
I am interested in taking a teacher recertification workshop in Maine this summer and I'm having difficulty obtaining information. Someone please help me! I am a Maine certified teacher teaching Kindergarten at a private school in Illinois. I will be in the Ellsworth area for a month this summer and I want to take advantage of a workshop offered at one of the local schools within a 30 mile radius (I have enjoyed the classes I have taken in the past, but it has been 6+ years since my last one). I would love any information you can pass on to me A.S.A.P!!! Thank you so much for your help! Kim
Hello all! I'm looking for an elementary class that is interested in a postcard exchange project. If you, or someone you know, is interested please let me know. I'm missing a participant for your state.
For this exchange, we will all send a postcard to the other 49 state participants during the school year that contains a real-life (not kid-drawn) picture of their state (or a feature of the state) and some fun facts for the students to learn. (I saw vistaprint.com had some good deals on state postcards bought in bulk). Once I gather all the state participants, I'll forward the addresses of everyone before school starts (in label format so you can peel and stick). In this email I will let everyone know what month they are to send their cards out. This way we get them throughout the year. I will also try my best to send a friendly reminder at the beginning and end of the month for those who are to send out to help remind everyone.
Please email me with the following information so I can mark you down as the participant for your state.
Your name (with appropriate abbr. Miss, Ms., Mrs., Mr.) Your school name Your school address Your grade level
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at [email removed])!
