Hi everyone, I have a question, and I was hoping some of you might be able to help me out. What is the job market in Maine like? Are teachers having a hard or easy time finding work there?
The reason I ask is, I am interested in relocating to Maine. I now work in Public Relations, but I'm considering changing careers and becoming either an English teacher or a Guidance Counselor. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what would be the best bet as far as demand goes?
I would appreciate any help you could give. You can email me at s.w.[email removed]
hello :) i have been teaching for 10 years and recently moved to maine. i've been actively looking for a full time position for about 2 months, and in the mean time, landed a long term sub. job. it is my experience that the job market up here for teachers is a lot easier than where i came from, NJ. i see that there is a strong need for both special ed. teachers, and foreign language teachers. however, a regular ed. degree is promising too, as all the districts are hungry for certified substitutes at the very least! good luck to you :)
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to INKBANK Cartridge Recycling Fundraising Programs ([link removed].
If your school is not currently recycling inkjet and laser cartridges, you may be missing out on one of the most lucrative fundraisers ever. If you are recycling, we hope your experience has been financially rewarding. I would like to invite you to visit our website as http://WWW.INKBANK.COM and see our current cartridge values, our “5 Minute Crash Course on Cartridge Recycling”, and see how we are making a difference across North America in financially supporting the PTO/PTA effort and protecting the environment.
Just a note to let you know I have more than fifty classic short stories at my site. These are public domain stories for you to use as you like and include many classics for teenagers ("The Scarlet Ibis" and several by Poe.) I also have lots of writing prompts. Hope the site is useful to you.
I am interested to find out which textbooks are used in US history courses in Maine high schools. Please reply with the full name of the textbook, publisher, and date published. Thanks!
I'm moving to Rangeley Lakes region in the summer 2003. Looking for an art teaching position within about a 45 minute drive, to include Farmington and LA areas. I have a BFA from the Maryland Institue College of Art and am working to gain certification by May. I have had my own graphic arts business for 6 years. Any suggestions or referrals would be greatly appreciated!
My fiancé and I are considering moving to Maine from Virginia. We are both high school teacher (fiancé-history and me-math). How difficult is it to find a full time position? When should we start looking spring/summer (we can not move until we have jobs)? Does Maine have a teacher shortage? Can we get jobs in Maine if we are not fully certified?
I'm conducting a one question survey. If you have taken the Praxis II Content Knowledge Exam in your discipline, did you find the exam valid? Yes or No and Why or why not? This information will be used to determine whether or not to use this exam as a measure of content knowledge for teachers applying for advanced compensation. We already have portfolio and performance measurements, but we are trying to determine which exam would be appropriate to get an objective measure of content knowledge.
For art there are two Praxis II tests, one is content and knowledge and the other is criticism. The Content and knowledge is definitely worth taking and a measure of knowledge, the other is hard and certainly separates the haves from the have-nots in this discipline. Yes, I think they are a valid measure in the art arena.
Hi, I am the full-time mom of three children under the age of five and looking for online courses that will fulfill my teacher recertification (K-8) requirements. I need 9 CEUs or 6 college credits. I'm looking for something as inexpensive as possible and something I can do at home online with a basic computer (and no DSL or cable hookup). Any Ideas?

Jennifer,
I was in the same situation. I took classes from Indiana University. You can register online or over the phone. The classes are self paced and everything is sent via mail or fax. They have a large selection of classes and I think the fees were around 300-400 per 3 credit class. They are very organized and at the time were the best solution I could find.
Here is a link to the distance learning portion of their site.
