Do teachers in Maine pay into social security? When a
teacher retires from a Maine district, does he/she get s.s.
AND the teaching pension? I realize that the states have
different arrangements about this issue; for ex., if you
teach in Texas, you give up all of your previously earned
social security and get only the teaching pension.

Dan,
NO!! Teachers in Maine (and especially those moving from
another state or job) get screwed on this issue. They do not
pay into SS and thus loose benefits.
