I've been doing some research on the "MTTC" for elementary teachers. From what i've found, many people fail it. I'll be taking it in July of this year and I'm wondering how much prep i'm going to need and HOW to prep. Thanks!!

The Rep. legislature passed a bill to cut pay, kill all tenure and evaluate tchrs on the basis of test results of the children. No unions permitted by law....low pay...can be fired for any reason at any time. Forget the sunshine. This place is not where you want to be.
annThe same is happening in GA...10 unpaid furlough days, decreased pay next year and no union to back them up...also, state objectives must be orally stated as well as written on the board for the kids to write down...higher ups visiting rooms to make sure this is being done...

Achievement First is a charter school management organization started in July 2003 by the leaders of Amistad Academy, a high performing charter school in New Haven, CT. A non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, Achievement First is creating a network of achievement-gap closing charter schools in Connecticut and New York to bring to scale the dramatic, life changing student achievement results produced at Amistad Academy. Achievement First currently operates 17 schools in both NY and CT. Over the next decade, Achievement First will grow to support 30 schools serving over 11,500 students. I realize that probably the teachers can't do anything without higher approval, but if we could be busy--truly needed--in another classroom, we will feel useful.
All teachers are so different. In one special ed class, if we help the student put on his jacket or clean up her mess, we get reproved--the student should be doing it himself. But in another classroom, the teacher will let it go and welcome it. So, realize that if we don't "step forward" and do things, it's because we've had bad past experiences. Please welcome us; don't act like "yuck, I have a SUB. My day will go awful."
And one more thing--if you have two subs, and want to call one of them back for another absence--please don't do it in front of the unneeded sub. She will feel snubbed.
But--after all this--THANK YOU to the many wonderful teachers! I have met many great teachers and students, and it has renewed my trust in this generation.

I have sent a resume to every school that was there with positions I am eligible for, and have not heard back as of yet. Doing some follow up now and hoping for the best

MI TeachI wouldn't speak up... simply because you don't want to rock the boat. I think if you mention it it may annoy someone into writing him off for the job later on.

The sound on the aesop has not been working for a few days...did you know of the problem? I was sitting at the computer when the jobs came in and there was no sound. I think aesop makes getting jobs so much easier...thanks.
I quit my charter school job after last year. This year I have been subbing. I did a long-term position in the fall until Christmas break, then I started day-to-day subbing. I sub every day that I want to sub and I don't have any problems getting enough jobs. I usually sub all 5 school days of the week (full days too!). I do use Jobulator to help me get the jobs though.
Good luck, and remember that you need to do what is best for YOU!
