I know that things are rough in Michigan right now, but does anyone have any ideas? The only thing I want to do is teach, but if I have to take time off and do something else to get by until a position opens up, I'm not too proud.

Unfortunately, there is very litte need for teachers with English and or Social Studies in Michigan right now. There are thousands of teachers graduating each year and hundreds of openings so the odds are against you. The budget cuts in education are not helping things.
