I've been teaching in Arizona for the last four years and I am DESPERATE to get out of this nuthouse. I'm certified in Secondary English and Social Studies in Michigan and Arizona (I know, so is everyone else) and I want to end my exile and come HOME.

I know that things are rough in Michigan right now, but does anyone have any ideas? The only thing I want to do is teach, but if I have to take time off and do something else to get by until a position opens up, I'm not too proud.

good luck in your search Unfortunately, there is very litte need for teachers with English and or Social Studies in Michigan right now. There are thousands of teachers graduating each year and hundreds of openings so the odds are against you. The budget cuts in education are not helping things. If it's meant to be... It's pretty grim, but if you REALLY want to move back you can sub or become a parapro to get your foot in the door in a district. I quit my (horrible) charter school job to be a parapro, and hopefully next year I'll have a full-time teaching gig. If not, I'll just keep plugging along being a parapro!

Things will be rough in Michigan for...,the forseeable future. I think things will be rough in most of the country for the next couple of decades.
